I’m 18 weeks and all day Iv had very bad heart burn that has made me vomit bright yellow liquid. Iv drank some gaviscon and it hasn’t helped at all. I’m sat sipping cold water but not helping either. Iv never had an issue with heartburn until today. What could suddenly cause it and more so what can I take to get rid of it?

Omeprazole but you'll need it prescribed

Hugasauras · 02/05/2022 20:00

Omeprazole is a wonder drug. Call your midwife tomorrow and ask!

StephMum92 · 02/05/2022 20:01

I was like this the whole way through. Ring docs and get omeprazole. Also when laying down try and lay on your left side it didn't make it go away but it helped it a lot for me. Also, the second I gave birth it went and 11 weeks down the line hasn't come back once! X

FIZZYTEDDY · 02/05/2022 20:13

Yes omeprazole is the answer like the others have said. Try gaviscon double action - that and the omeprazole combo worked well for me. I'd say don't write the gaviscon off..it can be really effective.

Watch what you eat/looks for patterns...onions, garlic, spicy foods, fatty foods..sausage rolls are a killer (fatty, oniony, herby = repeating) and avoid same!

I had heartburn and bad acid reflux from about 2nd trimester on...I can sympathise

Hallibob · 02/05/2022 20:15

Gaviscon advance! You get it behind the pharmacy counter, I drank the stuff my last pregnancy!

motogirl · 02/05/2022 20:30

Nexium, get it on prescription it's expensive. Or Zantac if its available again

bravotango · 02/05/2022 20:31

I had this randomly for a weekend - must have eaten something - and couldnt keep the Gaviscon drink down, but chewed the tablets and ate Lovehearts and that kept it at bay

rainbowplease · 02/05/2022 22:41

Omeprazole! Dr should have no issue prescribing it.

Chattycatty · 02/05/2022 22:43

And if you can't wait til morning rennies helped me a thousand fold. It's miserable.

DaisyStPatience · 02/05/2022 22:45

I think you can get omeprazole without a prescription

JohannSebastianBach · 02/05/2022 22:47

Gaviscon never worked for me but rennie did. Try them and if they don't help ask for omeprazole

hashbrownsandwich · 02/05/2022 22:49

Omeprazole doesn't need a prescription. Neither does nexiium which is the OTC equivalent.

Holistically ginger is an option.

CurbsideProphet · 02/05/2022 22:49

Oh god I really sympathise. I'm 16 weeks and have been on omeprazole for ages now. I have to sleep sitting upright. If I sleep on my side, even just for a few hours, I have the bile vomit the next morning. Awful🙈 Hope yours goes away with omeprazole 🤞🏻

Fizzyfish · 02/05/2022 22:56

This is me right now, drinking from gaviscon 500ml bottles, I've been given omeprazole, only took it once but seemed to make the acid reflux worse? Does it just take a few days to work?

TheSillyMastiff · 02/05/2022 23:05

I would chew Rennie's by the handfull and giuzzle gaviscon from the bottle 😳

I learnt in the end it was onions that caused it and also allowing myself to become hungry weirdly.

I used to nibble on ginger nut biscuits throughout the day (not loads like 5 biscuits a day) that also helped.

StephMum92 · 03/05/2022 19:17

@Fizzyfish I must admit on the days I forgot to take my omeprazole I didn't see much difference but I know for the first month I made sure I took them everyday because reflux was just agony so might be worth trying them for a week or so see if they start to kick in x

Weathergirl1 · 03/05/2022 22:17

I'm pretty sure it takes about 3 or 4 days for Omeprazole to properly work (if it's going to).

TheGirlWhoLived · 03/05/2022 22:19

Milk might be good to sooth the burn in the interim
