Hi

I'm nearly 19 weeks pregnant with #3 and have suffered so far with morning sickness. Last week Dr prescribed iron tablets for me and the pharmacist said I was to take them first thing in the morning and at least an hour before any milk products. Now I'm a cereal for breakfast girl so I'm finding it hard, this morning I had my tablet with orange juice, bread and jam and an hour after I had some cereal - then threw it back up!!

So is there any medical reason to take it then? Would it make any difference to take it in the evening?

Thanks

I would not take the iron tablets I would get
'Spatone' from boots. its iron water that you can take in pregnancy, I take two a day and have been for months, its a little expensive but it does not stop you from crapping.

Oh bugger, just remembered you are not supposed to take iron & milk together - just took my prenatal tablet with iron after my dinner, then promptly ate a huge bowl of cereal on top.( that'll teach me to be a greedy guts!) Hope I don't explode or something now!

I always take mine at night. Mainly because they sometimes make me feel queasy and if I'm aslepp I don't feel it.

Thanks everyone, spatone sounds good but Boots is a bit too far to go!

I think I'll just take it later in the day

Hi all,
I get a bit anemic in pregnancy and I have been told the following -

if you are taking iron supplements it is best not to take them at the same time as milk or anything containing caffiene.

Caffiene, milk and also antacid tablets all reduce the absorption of iron in your body.

It is also best to avoid caffiene products within an hour of meals, this helps your body maximize the absorption of iron and other vitamins from your food.

Vitamin C can help your body take up iron and other vitamins/minerals, so it can be good to take supplements with a class or orange juice or something like that.

HTH
