Not overly keen on Tia but have a Sri Lankan friend who is called Asha. Have a Finnish friend called Pia.

sweetkitty · 10/01/2008 15:14

Thea is lovely as well

bundle · 10/01/2008 15:15

i really like the name Siri

kittylouise · 10/01/2008 15:16

No to Tia and Asha - a bit chavvy.

Thalia (prefer that spelling) is a LOT nicer, and not at all chavvy.

What about Thea, Aster, Aphra? They are quite similar.

Thanks hatrick, you never know you could use in for number 5

The reason we opted for Talia was in part because it was the easiest spelling, I'm sure she would have got Th-ah-lia with the TH sound in it as silent letters really phase some people. She has also been called Tay-lia. And we were accused of making it up.

People eh? Just goes to show you have to chose a name YOU like and sod everyone else.

I have a name that is a brand of cake and the number of idiots people when they first here it say "oh like the cake ha ha ha ha" like they are the first people to make the connection and I haven't heard it 1000 times before, drives me mad. That's why I think whilst Tia is a pretty name that I wouldn't use it.

nailpolish · 10/01/2008 15:28

i cnat think of a brand of cake....

sweetkitty · 10/01/2008 15:32

yes you can two names both v popular in the 1970's, mine are hyphenated together, kind of like a certain cbeebies presenter

theres tonnes of clues

I bloody hate those cakes

Also know someone who names their son after their favourite drink, why?

Bessie123 · 10/01/2008 15:51

Mister-Kipling?

Mumblesmummy · 10/01/2008 15:51

Why when I say Sara-Lee do I say it in a really stupid Southern Belle 'well ah do declayer' accent, then laugh at myself.

I really am an idiot

sweetkitty · 10/01/2008 16:28

yes you got it notjustmom - whoops I really have outed myself on MN now

I grew up with loads of Sharons, Tracys, Angelas, Michelles etc and hated my name.

Maybe if you called your DD Sharon nowadays they would be all exotic at school surrounded by Evies, Emilys, Chloes, Chantelles etc

What about Tasha Nixx - combine the two?

funnypeculiar · 10/01/2008 16:37

Hatrick - as a fellow Thea-owner, I must urge you to STOP suggesting it on name threads .

Twinkie1 · 10/01/2008 16:39

I do like Thalia but think Asha and Tia are slightly chavvy!

Bessie123 · 10/01/2008 16:42

Sweetkitty

I was really hoping for mister-kipling

Oh yes indeed, hatrick.

asicsgirl · 10/01/2008 19:01

Tia is cute. I love this site because it has name surveys - people who are actually called the name answer questions about whether they like it, whether they were bullied etc. 90% of people who answered (that's 90% of 92 people!) said they liked being called Tia 'a lot'. 80% would advise parents to name their child Tia. Just a thought x

Nixx101 · 10/01/2008 19:11

Thank u, will check that site out.x

Hi I love the name Tia, although slightly biased as have a little girl with that name in the family and as an affectionate nickname (usually when she has been naughty instead of being shouted at!!) she gets called Tia Maria She suits it, its very cute and girly as she is!!!
