What does 'quickening' feel like then ??

I was sat in the florist earlier, legs crossed, slightly leaning forward to see something and suddenly felt this almost vibrating sensation just below my belly button to the left ! It was like a bubbling/fluttering, very fast. Happened again a few seconds later. Was this baby?? I'm 16+3 today

A bird briefly fluttering its wings…congratulations!

Could absolutely be baby. They get a bit bigger and then they start to feel like a little eel wriggling around!

Sounds very much like it! When I was pg with DD, the first movements I felt were just like if you imagined popcorn kernels popping low down inside your pelvis 😂

Ringmaster27 · 28/04/2022 17:48

I mistook my first baby’s early movement as a stuck fart 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 You know that feeling when you really need to fart but it won’t come out and just kind of bubbles in your lower belly?
That. 😂

It was very much like if you had a tiny bird in your hands and can imagine it's wings fluttering against your hands, that kinda feeling

Yep! That's it! It's gorgeous, isn't it? I think with your first baby it's the most noticeable/remarkable because, well, it's the very first time you feel this strange little sensation... like a little dragonfly vibrating its wings for a few seconds.

😂Yeah... now I get that kind of 'quickening' all the time at 50! You get fartenings at my age.

Ringmaster27 · 28/04/2022 18:16

@TheVanguardSix 😂😂 fartenings 😂😂

It is lovely !! I didn't feel it with my first, didn't feel anything until 20 weeks and it was pokes by that point. So totally new experience for me, Very specific feeling isn't it

Yes that's exactly right! A few days later it was followed with tapping on my hip bone. Strangest and loveliest feeling in the world

DressingGownofDoom · 28/04/2022 18:42

Can't stop laughing at fartenings 🤣🤣🤣 I had the most convincing phantom kick yesterday!!
Yes that sounds like quickening OP, I dismissed it with my second baby for weeks because it was so low down on the left side I thought it had to be fartenings but when I went for my 20 week scan it turned out she was tucked right down into the bottom left of my pelvis (they couldn't tell me the sex because she was sitting on her bum and all tucked up and I was raging!)

I felt it like a goldfish turning somersaults in my womb!

I think I would describe it as a muscle twitch,
similar to how it feels when your eye twitches, so sounds like the baby!

Congratulations, it’s exciting feeling the first movements!
