Matb1

I'm 21 weeks tomorrow and had my 20 week scan yesterday. I asked the maternity unit at the hospital about the matb1 and they said I need to get it from my community midwife at the 24 week appointment. I had a baby 21 years ago but this is my second pregnancy I don't have a 24 week appointment, next midwife appointment is at 28 weeks. The hospital were insistent that the matb1 can only be issued at 24 weeks which is nonsense as it can be issued after 20 weeks.

I have no direct contact details for the community midwives, I called the hospital yesterday afternoon and they said they could put me through to the voicemail of the community midwives. I left a message and they haven't called back. I'm not sure what else I can do?

It will be done at your next routine appointment. Your employer doesn’t legally need it until four weeks before you go on maternity leave. Barring exceptional circumstances (mum needing to go off work early or needing one for a benefits application urgently for example) we don’t issue them outside of appointments.

My workplace has a policy where they need the form by week 25 or you may not get paid maternity, so I was on edge about this too! I got mine at my 25 week appt, but if you don't have one planned I'd definitely keep chasing the community midwives up

Check with your HR dept before you bother the midwives. My employer needs to know plans and dates by the end of the 25th week but you could follow up with the MatB1 form later.

They don't actually need the matb1 at 25 weeks. All they need by then is notification that you are pregnant and when you want leave to start. The matb1 can follow afterwards

I'm 21 weeks and had my scan a few days ago. I forgot to ask about the matb1 so I rang yesterday and they said they can be done at any time after 20 weeks. My next appointment isn't til 28 weeks either but my employer wants it by 25 weeks so I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.

The midwife messaged me a earlier and I've just picked it up from the children's centre. My employer wants it soon too so I just wanted to have it
