Hi all,

I have suddenly realised that the third trimester is around the corner and I feel totally unprepared. Can anybody recommend any books that I can read? Especially I am looking for books around preparing for birth and the fourth trimester.

I have been considering Cribsheet by Emily Oster as I really like the idea of a data-based narrative but also aware that as it's American, some of the results may not apply (maternity etc). Obviously I am still very happy to read it if anybody here suggests it!

Any help is much appreciated :)

The positive birth book by Milli Hill

i read Emily Oster's pregnancy book (Expecting Better) and I found it remarkably subjective for something that was claiming to be based on objective facts... authors can be selective with the studies and data they reference, of course. I haven't read Cribsheet but you might need to take what's useful and ignore what isn't.

Do you plan/hope to breastfeed? If so everyone recommends 'the womanly art of breastfeeding', I haven't read it though... I found 'the food of love' by Kate Evans was good.

Oh and 'What Mothers Do' by Naomi Stadlen

I thought both Expecting Better and Cribsheet were really good. They have UK versions.

Second Milli Hill and Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. I didn't like the Positive Breastfeeding Book as it found it preachy, but if you want BF info then online Kellymom website is great 👍

Thank you all for your suggestions! The Emily Oster books seem quite divisive so I might give them a go and see how they are. Definitely going to check out the other books too.

Just to clarify, the Positive Birth Book is by Milli Hill and the Positive Breastfeeding Book is by a completely different author. It's the Milli Hill book I recommend.
