Hello :)

I don't know where else to ask but am wondering if anyone else is on Methyldopa for high blood pressure? They put me on it about 2 weeks and I feel like I've been hit by a bus and can barely get out of bed!!! Head aches etc just worsening. I can't see online anywhere that they produce bad side effects so thought I'd ask some other pregnant ladies :)

Thanks xx

I don’t take them but they can cause these side effects. Are you being monitored regularly to check they are actually working? If you have been feeling this ill for 2 weeks I’d be requesting an alternative. Labetolol seems well tolerated and is commonly used in pregnancy.

I took it for both pregnancies (labetol is more commonly used but it gave me some bad side effects). It didn’t cause me additional tiredness (I was already exhausted during both pregnancies) but had a very severe impact on mood, resulting in anxiety and depressive episodes. I thought it was just my hormones until my consultant clarified it was likely to be the methyldopa and referred me to a psych to support me. Please do keep an eye on your mood and maybe let your partner know too of this side effect so that you have someone looking out for you
