How pregnant am I?

According to my diary, I am currently just over 7 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. Am off to the first midwives appt this week. I know everyone says you show much more after your first pregnancy but I seem to be as big as last time at about 15 weeks. Is this normal or is it possible that I'm more pregnant than I thought? Until 7 weeks ago, I have been having periods as normal but some people can have periods when they're pregant - can't they? Short of having an early dating scan, is there any other way I can find out how many weeks I am???

ouioui, when I saw (my trusty!) consultant last week she said the top of the uterus at 16 wks (which I was then) is about halfway between the bellybutton and the pubic bone, so a doc/midwife should be able to feel that. at 12 wks I think it's just starting to pop over the top of the pubic bone. I'm much bigger than I was last time, so the dates could be accurate

Hi OuiOui, congratulations. I feel I've looked about 20 weeks from week 5 this time. Not sure if its water retention of if my muscles have just given up all together. I know how you feel - it would be great to leapfrog through the first trimester so start feeling a bit more human with a bit less fear, but I'm sure you have your dates right.

OuiOui - very common to feel much bigger second time around I'm afraid - muscles not quite so adept as first time around! It's correct that the top of your uterus should be mid way between tummy button and pubic bone at around 15wks, and at twelve weeks just palpable above your pubic bone - but VERY difficult to palpate a uterus if you're not sure what you're feeling - I found it hard to palpate my own!

Could you be having twins?

VJR · 29/10/2002 20:32

I was huge second time around from very early stages. I'm sure you are correct with your dates but you can find out for sure when you have your first scan.

Congratulations by the way.

kkgirl - are you trying to scare me? Glad to hear everyone was bigger the second time around - definitely worried that won't be able to drive beyond 5 months...

OuiOui

Just that when I was about 13 weeks I lost a tiny bit of blood and went to Casualty and when the Doctor examined me she insisted my dates were wrong and I knew exactly to the day when I conceived.
Didn't think any more about it, people say always bigger with second, until 20 week scan revealed double the trouble, double the joy!!!!!
Twins are nothing to be scared of much!!!
