please read and offer any advice on early scans

hi mums,

im just looking for some clarification really, my cycle avarages at 32 days and the date of my LMP was 7th March 2022.

me and my partner had unprotected sex on 21st march (the first day of my predicted fertile window) and haven’t had sex since due to him working away.

i began getting vvvf positives on the 30th march, which gradually got darker to me getting a 1-2 week reading on 5th april and 2-3 week reading on 10th april. it’s now 25th april and I had another 2-3 week reading.

going from my LMP i should be 6weeks according nhs calculator (other apps say 7 weeks 😳) but after an early scan today i am measuring only 5 weeks 3days both the gestational sac and yolk sac could be seen but no fetal pole.

the technician said this is all she would expect to see at the estimated gestation and simply said “it’s just to early to see little one at the moment”

i can’t work out if it’s possible (because i know i only had unprotected sex on 21st in my predicted fertile window) to only be 5weeks and 3days, has anyone experienced anything similar or have any knowledge on this type of thing that can explain it to me id be very grateful x

Sperm can stay in the body for 5 days so it might be that you conceived a few days later? I went for an early scan when I was supposed to be 8 weeks and they said I was measuring 6.5. By my 12 week scan it had reduced to a week behind where my LMP put it but baby was fine and growing, I must have just ovulated later (despite using ovu strips!). The baby is so small at this stage that they can be out with their measurements.

oh really so there might be a slight chance that baby is going to be just fine and grow as expected. i haven’t stopped crying since getting home after the scan, i just don’t know what to think or believe 🥺

I was a bit worried too but I’ve seen lots of people on here who ‘catch up’ as well x

I went for an early scan expecting to be 6+5 (due to LMP) and ended up being 5+4 with no foetal pole due to it being early like yourself.
Returned 13 days later measured 6+5 with heartbeat. I was panicking that in 13 days there was only 8 days difference. Epau reassured me that all was okay and different angles on the scan can affect it etc. Think it's super hard to tell exact dates this early.
I'm 7+3 now

My LMP was 7th March and the day we had sex was 21st March and I got my first positive on 31st March- the calculators said I was 6w5d when we had a private scan yesterday but the scan showed only gestational sac and yolk sac no fetal and she said I was measuring at weeks and to some back in 2 weeks but I am really panicking as I tracked everything and know my dates were correct did you get a re scan booked in? Xx

I had a very similar experience. Measured 9 days earlier than expected and no fetal pole when scanned after an early bleed. Now nearly at term so it all worked out in the end! Early scans are so inaccurate and based on technicians' measurements and technique. A millimetre makes a huge difference at that stage so don't give up hope if they're telling you it is normal. I know it's so stressful and uncertain

yes i have rescan in 10 days time which will be the 5th May x

When I went for m early scan I thought I would be around 6 weeks+ but turned out to be only 5 weeks and nothing could be seen.. I went back 2 weeks later at 7 weeks where a tiny little bean could be seen.

At my 12 week scan I was put forward by over a week so my dates were correct. I think at that early stage they're just too small to see.

I'm now 18w 4d with a little boy 💙

I echo the posts of others who had the same situation!

Convinced I should of been 7+6 but was only measuring 5+5 with no fetal pole.
Agonising 15 day wait, and there little bean was. Measuring only a week behind where i originally thought. I was also convinced of my dates as i wrote them all down but i can only assume i implanted late!

Now 19+3! At the early stage we are literally talking mm, it is so easy to not see something or be at the wrong angle etc. I know you will because its natural, but try not to panic. If you dont have any obvious miscarriage signs, the chances of things being positive are still far more than if something bad was to happen!
