6w6D gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole

Hello I was really trying to see if anyone can relate or have positive stories from a similar experience as it’s safe to say I am really worried….

so I paid for a private early scan yesterday and I was 6w6D however there was only the gestational sac and yolk sac no fetal pole and the sac was measuring at 5w. So 2 weeks behind and it is really unlikely my dates are wrong my cycles are always 30 days and I know when I ovulated as I been tracking for months whilst TTC

the lady didn’t seem too concerned she was just like we will rescan you in 2 weeks time however I didn’t take it to well. With my DS we had a scan exactly the same time and saw the heartbeat. I’m just feeling really worried and sad and 2 weeks it just so long to just wait.

Hey @Coco9001 , this post could have literally been written by me! I've got an active thread on the same topic - I thought I was approx 6w, but gestational sac is measuring 5w. I'm pretty sure of my dates due to opks. I'm going back for a scan on 8th May. Have you got a follow up scan booked? Perhaps you ovulated later than usual this month? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you xxx

@Coco9001 I'm also is similar position. paid for a private scan on friday and measured a week behind at 6 weeks 1 day with heartbeat. I got the impression it could go either way. I am booking a scan for Saturday because I can't wait two weeks and need to know either way.

It's so stressful isn't it but keeping my fingers crossed for is all.

i know it’s awful isn’t ! I have done similar I called the early pregnancy unit and they have offered me a scan Friday as they also would have to do two scans to confirm , let’s all keep updated fingers crossed for us all xxxx

@Coco9001 that's good the EPU will offer you a scan. I'm away (and want scan as soon as i'm back- sat morning) otherwise I would try mine but they aren't usually very accommodating unless bleeding or pain.

How are you both feeling? I just feel i'm limbo and just want to know either way now.

Yes it was good of them however they did come across very rude , the private scan were actually really positive about it when I they did my scan however the EPU was like we will do two scans to confirm miscarriage and just put I guess what I was thinking out there which left me upset on the phone. I think I have good days and bad days but simlar to you I just want to know x

If it helps, the same happened to me.

I thought i was 6w6days, but had Gas sac + yolk sac (no fetail pole) and measuring 5w3 days - i was certian my dates were not wrong.

I am now 19 weeks! I returned for a follow up scan 2 weeks later and there she was, matching the dates i expected.

At this stage, we are literally talking mm - they can be so so so difficult to spot, and can go from nothing to feotus over night!

Obviously it can go either way, but its also not uncommon that early on for nothing to be there when you think it should xxx

Hey @Stargazer89 and @Coco9001 , hope you are both OK ❤I'm away at the moment which was such a good distraction. I'm counting down the days till the next scan though. I don't really seem to have any symptoms other than slightly sore boobs which is making me think somethings not quite right. I truly hope I'm wrong! It's lovely to hear other people's good news though - gives us all some hope! Xxxx

This happened to my sister. I did say to her you've just done a bit early as there was no feral pole. She went at 6 weeks, returned at 8 and all was fine xx

@Bobduncan i'm the same with symptoms, i actually think mine have got less so can't help but think this is not going to go the way I want it to.

One more sleep until i know either way though. Counting down the minutes.

I have my booking appointment over the phone this morning and i don't want to do it until i know tomorrow but i don't think i can change it now

Hi @Coco9001 thanks for checking in. Unfortunately scan didn't go as I would have liked (but the way I felt it would go) no growth and heartbeat is weaker so it's not viable. Need to contact EPU on tuesday. Strangely I feel fine because I had expected the news and we are going to have some time off and enjoy our lovely little 21month old for a while.

My understanding from when I had dd is that prior to 8w it is really hard to to a)accurately measure and date and b) see the heartbeat clearly

Hello @Bobduncan @Stargazer89 I’m so sorry to both of you I really was hoping you would get a positive outcome… my thoughts are with you both ❤️❤️
I ended up contacting my EPU last Monday following the private scan as I just felt so upset after so they told me to come in on Friday ( Friday just gone) for a scan, they did do an internal scan and did find a small fetal pole this time but it was only measuring 3.3mm and no HB as she said it’s too small to see one, I have to go back this Friday to see if there is any growth. I do love the EPU’s honesty and bluntness though as she did say to me if your sure on your dates then prepare for a miscarriage!!! so as you can imagine this week has been awful just counting down the days until Friday. I haven’t had any cramping or any type of bleeding through out the pregnancy as of yet xxx
