Hi ladies,

Just thought it would be interesting to hear people's experiences in the differences between when you've been pregnant with a girl Vs when you were pregnant with a boy? In terms of symptoms, did you have completely different pregnancys or very similar pregnancys?

Reason I ask is Ive had one son and I had absolutely zero symptoms with him pretty much my whole pregnancy.. pregnant again with baby #2 and again absolutely zero symptoms.. makes me wonder whether it may be another boy?

xxx

Sickness with both but was worse with DD. With DS I also had 10 weeks of recurrent UTIs (including a particularly unpleasant kidney infection). Also the last 4 weeks with DS I had heartburn, he did come out with a full head of hair though.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/04/2022 16:59

Symptoms completely different with mine. 1st was heightened sense of smell, food aversion and some sickness. Craving beer and nachos. (Fortunately just smelling the beer was enough!)

2nd was bad morning sickness all dag tiredness, sore breasts and craving coke/pepsi
Both girls.

Tidypidy · 23/04/2022 17:01

Dd I felt sick from about 10 weeks until she was born. Not actually sick though until I had gas and air in labour!
Ds1 felt nauseous, awful hay fever symptoms including hives and asthma. No actual sickness.
Ds2 sick everyday from about 8 weeks until about an hour after he was born. Only sick once a day though, no HG.

My bumps looked very different though between dd and my 2 ds. With dd I was pregnant everywhere! You could tell from behind! With the boys though it was all up front.

GivenchyDahhling · 23/04/2022 17:02

Currently 22 weeks pregnant with DD, DS is 2. This pregnancy has been soooo much worse. Feeling heavier, bloated and far more tired (although I appreciate some of that is down to having a toddler this time around). Also I was nauseous but never sick between weeks 7-11ish with DS, with this one I have been sick most days from 8 weeks onwards.

It’s going to be an unpleasant 18ish weeks.

Graceybaby · 23/04/2022 17:11

Wow, a mixed bag then really! Sorry to hear about all the sickness, I was dreading getting it this time round as I was so lucky last time but I've had nothing again! No nausea at all and no symptoms again expect slightly tender boobs occasionally!

There's the whole thing about HSG levels being higher with girls which causes more symptoms but not sure how true it is?

I'm just surprised that again I seem to be having a very very similar pregnancy.. still early days for me I'm still first trimester so time will tell!!

I've been exactly the same with both of mine! No sickness just feeling generally under the weather.

Cravings are another story - dd I craved watermelon. This one? Not much at all.

LaLoose · 23/04/2022 17:15

Yes it’s another boy. Congrats (and I’m sure) x

They were broadly pretty similar, only with DS I was really exhausted from weeks 2-6 (after which I found I was PG), but I don't think that was to do with gender at all. Otherwise were both pretty symptom-free until the final 6 weeks when I got a terrible rash on my torso. Reading up in this, it seemed it was more common if you were carrying a boy and could be a reaction to the presence of male hormones (IIRC), so I began to suspect it may be a boy - 1st was girl. Aside from happening to have had that rash, I wouldn't say there was any qualitative difference in pregnancies.

AlwaysBeAMummyTo6 · 23/04/2022 17:49

out of pure curosity ladies what foods did you eat when you were carrying your girls? Did anyone have a metallic taste as well when pregnant?

whoturnedthesunoff · 23/04/2022 17:51

First 2 pregnancies - heartburn , huge weight gain , chloasma, anaemia , late labours , long with episiotomies and a blood transfusion- 2 girls

Last 2 pregnancies- none of the above
Looked and felt great , worked till 37 weeks , came within 3 days of due date , joy to deliver - 2 boys

Probably coincidental 😕

BurningBenches · 23/04/2022 17:54

1-3 were girls. No real early symptoms, no morning sickness, hideous heartburn with all. PGP with 2 and 3

4th (and only boy) Bad morning sickness, no PGP though that may have been down to the 8yr gap. Heartburn as ever
Dark line down belly, the only pregnancy I had this with. Carried low. He would have been 1lb heavier than the heaviest of the others (so around 10lb5) had he not been induced at 40wk.

Dd5. Sickest of the lot. Had notably high HCG and the Dr said I bet you feel sick. Awful PGP again, but only 22m gap so possibly gap rather than sex.

LilacPoppy · 23/04/2022 17:55

P1 G no sickness bad heartburn
p2 G mild sickness
P3 G no sickness
P4 B bad sickness
P5 GG terrible sickness but was twins
P6 B no sickness heartburn
P7 B no sickness
P8 G mild sickness

barneymcgroo · 23/04/2022 18:44

I have two boys, currently pregnant again.

DS1 - virtually no symptoms, other than mega tired in the early days. Went off basil.
DS2 - almost identical.
DC3 - mild nausea, food aversion. Not so tired. Am 16 weeks, still feeling a bit sick, still not managing to eat as much as usual.

DC3 sex tbc - not finding out, so will let you know in October...

SamanthaVimes · 23/04/2022 19:00

I had a horrific first / most of second trimester with DD. Felt sick all the time, completely exhausted, absolute zombie.

Currently 28 weeks pregnant with a DS and this pregnancy has been sooooo much easier symptom wise. Mild bit of nausea but it went quickly and not half as tired (despite having a toddler to chase around)

Lastsecondfail · 23/04/2022 19:03

With DS I vomited a LOT! Felt nauseous most of the time and really tired.

With DD I had almost every symptom including an awful taste in my mouth for months. Vomited much less but was always nauseous. It felt different to the first.

CareBearsCare · 23/04/2022 20:04

Different cravings but same symptoms.
With dd I craved doughnuts which is something I don't eat normally. With ds I craved salty/sour food like pretzels and tangfastics

annlee3817 · 23/04/2022 20:48

Haven't had one of each, but with DD1 I had no sickness at all, no symptoms really. Currently 21 weeks with DD2 and had awful nausea for the first fourteen weeks, wanted to cry

I have a 100% record on this (preens)

Ilikecake05 · 24/04/2022 06:51

Ds1 - horrific nausea for first 12 weeks. Horrible food aversions to just about everything for first 12 weeks and then meat for the whole pregnancy. Lived on toast and banana for first 12 weeks. PGP was really bad. 9lb 11oz 41+1

DS2 - exactly the same as DS1 but I couldn’t even tolerate the banana so lived on dry crumpets. PGP was so bad I had crutches. 8lb 11oz 40+1

DD1 - mild nausea for first 12 weeks but could eat. Food aversions to lumps of meat only (minced meat was fine). PGP again. 5lb 6oz 35+1

DD2- currently 29w pregnant. No nausea or food aversions other than to battered food and coffee (and ironically I got Campylobacter from mishandling raw chicken 8 weeks ago for the first time in my life.). PGP is very mild so far (only when turning in bed). Have had severe reflux since 10DPO, which is a first for me. I’ll be induced at 37w and she’s another big baby (estimated to be 98th centile according to bump measurements and growth scans).

oneproudmumma · 24/04/2022 07:02

DS pregnancy broadly followed the same pattern as DDs except that with him I did not "bloom" in the second trimester, I felt shit throughout the whole pregnancy. I also had a metallic taste in my mouth, I didn't have that with 2 DDs. The bonus with DS is I didn't have any bloating or swelling - apart from a neat bump I never looked pregnant everywhere else.

Louise0701 · 24/04/2022 07:09

Absolutely no differences. I’ve got 3; 1 DD 2DS.
no sickness with any
same size and shape bump each time
similar cravings each time
