Food poisoning - please help

I had a battered sausage from the chippy, it was slightly pinkish inside but that’s how they’ve always looked. The last part of the sausage was unusually pink and had a speck of red in it, I left that part and I started to doubt whether or not the rest of it was safe to consume .. but it was too late since I had already eaten it.

within 3 hours, I had excessive flatulence and some bloating. 11 hours later I woke up with stomach pain and I had some vile diarrhoea, I had to go back to the toilet a few hours later only for more diarrhoea to come out. That was yesterday now, today I used the bathroom and I’ve still got diarrhoea but the flatulence and bloating have gone down.

i have stayed hydrated but I’ve some how lost 2 lbs in the past 36 hours from this food poisoning. I don’t have any nausea or vomiting , my appetite wasn’t as good as usual yesterday but it’s slowly returning back to normal.

im 28 weeks pregnant. Will this pass on its own or do I need to seek help? Does this sound severe enough to cause any problems to the baby?
do any of you have any idea what kind of bacteria could be causing it? From my knowledge, listeria takes several days for symptoms to show and I had symptoms within several hours.

Thank you

So sorry you are unwell! I think the best thing to do is ring your GP or maternity unit. The only way to know what bacteria is causing it is to test your stools.

You poor thing! Yes, I'd call your midwife or hospital maternity unit and just explain what has happened. Best to get checked out.

Hi @emzo19 ! Can I ask what the outcome was with this as I am 14 weeks pregnant and have something very similar happen? I am freaking out a little about whether baby is ok or not! Thanks

So sorry you’ve been through this I had food poisoning at about 25 weeks pregnant. Genuinely the worst experience of my life! Had diarrhoea and vomiting to the point that I had to take three days off work and was in bed /couldn’t manage food during that time. I called 111 and ended up going to my GP and he took my blood pressure and felt my stomach. It was all fine he just recommended to keep drinking water (which I couldn’t keep down!) and then prescribed some tablets for the nausea. I also emailed my midwife and she said to keep drinking fluids unless I had any severe abdominal pain or bleeding it was probably all fine. If you’re worried it may be worth making an appointment but sounds like you may be through the worst of it now? Hope you feel better soon! It took me about a week to feel back to normal again.

Hi @gurlwhaat thanks for replying. Thank you I will probably call midwife tomorrow then to be on the safe side but yes I do feel like I am through the worst of it and has only been about 2 days for me. I'm mainly thinking about listeria/toxoplasmosis as I think this was caused by either undercooked sausages or a dodgy Chinese takeaway 🤦🏻‍♀️ thank you for the reassurance xxx
