Hi everyone, apologies if this is one of a legion of 'CBA with work' threads but just needed to vent. I'm 32 weeks pregnant and the exhaustion has just hit me like a ton of bricks lately.

I work from home luckily (very handy for naps when needed!), and my mat cover will start in-role in a couple of weeks. In the meantime though, there's lots of work and projects wrap up, a new team to train and look after, and my line manager who is usually lovely but often forgets that I'm growing a life and will get impatient with me being a bit slower than usual or making the odd mistake.

I go off on maternity week 37, but it honestly feels ages away and like I have to go through a minefield to get there. Just can't wait to be off so I can focus on preparation for my little angel who's due in mid-June. Usually I like my job a lot but right now I want to tell a whole slew of corporate types to eff off and leave me alone!

I am only 6 weeks pregnant and feel the same! LOL. I have a long way to go.

I think it is ok for your focus to shift and almost somewhat expected. You are growing a little life so don't be too hard on yourself and take things slower. It is probably the only time it is nearly acceptable!

Yep- that’s why I went off from 29 weeks, as soon as I was able.

I know it’s not something that everyone can do financially- but just letting you know that you are not alone with not being invested in work any more!

Is there any way you can go off a little earlier? A week or two might make a big difference to knowing you’ll be ‘finished’ quicker.

I'm 14 weeks and have been struggling for weeks now! I do also have a 17 month old who is currently loving split nights and that is not helping. I struggle so much to concentrate and don't think I've done any meaningful work in weeks.

I'm hoping I'll get a burst of energy in the second trimester but it's not looking hopeful at the moment.

I'm 32 weeks too and was just thinking this morning about how tired I now am and how I just can't be bothered so you're not alone! I'm working until 38 weeks which seems like forever away, sharing your pain. It will go quicker than we realise (or so I've been told Hmm)

but often forgets that I'm growing a life

Please don't use this phrase! 🤢

I have had 3 DC and wanted this fact forgotten - women are pregnant, and at times need certain accommodations, that's it. No need for cloying language.

I sympathise with the travails of late pregnancy but all you can do is keep going until mat leave starts, doing what you have capacity to do.

I'd say there's no need to jump on a thread where I'm having a harmless vent and leave a snippy remark about wording preferences, but each to their own?

Thanks for the kind and understanding responses, everyone. Good to know this is a common feeling at all different stages of pregnancy. I always presume I'm being a wimp with this stuff and looking for an excuse not to crack on with stuff 😅

@Suprima, I do have some floating holidays that I was thinking of tacking on to the end of my mat leave when I'm on the bones of my * due to wage drop, but I must admit I'm tempted to take them now. I'll see what the next few weeks bring...

Hope everyone that's feeling the pressure is able to rest when needed! ❤

I know exactly how you feel, i'm 33 weeks now and literally counting down the days until i finish work (16 weekdays). The exhaustion has hit me massively in the last 3 weeks or so and i'm shattered when i finish a 9 hour day at work!

Be kind to yourself and finish sooner if you need to x

I’m 38+2 and unless baby comes early (unlikely as she’s my first) I’ll be going on maternity leave at 39+5, two days before my due date. The reasons are because I have a project wrapping up then, I can’t afford to have too much time on reduced pay as I only get 20 weeks full pay and I’d rather have that time with the baby. I’m working from home now and thought I may as well be working if I’m sitting around at home! Plus we got lots of sorting out and nesting done over the Easter break.

This wouldn’t suit everyone and I do feel tired, but I think work is keeping my mind occupied when it needs to be, and so I’m not always focused on the countdown to labour and getting fed up with being pregnant. Also although the job I’m working on is important, it is quite relaxed and not too challenging so perfect for this stage. I think anything that makes the days go faster helps and for me it’s work, seeing my horses and getting ready for the baby as I can’t do much else at the moment!

16 weeks and I feel like this already Grin

Really need to start embracing a lunchtime nap otherwise I don't see how I'll make it through.

Oh god yeah- I remember being 35 weeks, due to go off the following week, and a contractor was ROARING at me down the phone because he’d forgotten to submit his own timesheet and therefore wouldn’t paid that Friday.

I remember looking between the phone and the desk and just suddenly saying “I don’t need to put up with this nonsense.” and hanging up on him Blush My boss overheard and just laughed.

GinnyBee · 19/04/2022 17:28

I finished at 33 weeks and thank god. I'm 36 weeks today and have been so useless for three days now. I can't sleep, I'm so tired, feel fed up and uncomfortable. I had all these plans for getting everything ready and I'm so grateful I had 3 weeks to tackle anything outstanding before now, as if I'd left it longer I wouldn't get anything done!
