Tapering off progesterone suppositories after 12 weeks

Hi there! I am 10.5 weeks pregnant currently - I have PCOS and this is a Letrazole and IUI pregnancy.

I have been taking progesterone suppositories (Lutigest, 100mg 3 x daily) since the IUI and have been prescribed them up until 12 weeks. Provided all goes well at my 12 week scan next week, I'm thinking about how to stop the suppositories.

I have enough Lutigest to take me through to 13 weeks but would be interested in others' experiences of coming off progesterone. Did you taper (if so, how much) or stop cold turkey? Did you experience any bleeding or other side effects?

Thanks in advance!

I tapered off just because I had so many pessaries, I think I completely stopped at 14 weeks. Neither of my gynaecologists was particularly worried about how I stopped them!

At that stage the placenta should have completely taken over production so there shouldn't really be any side effects....oh, apart from my bloating and constipation improved (tmi). That was a good side effect of stopping!!

@Regenbogen22 thanks that is really helpful to know!

What did your tapering look like - moving to 2 suppositories per day for week 13, then one for day for week 14?

Oh I hadn't considered that the bloating might go away - that would be nice :) :)

@magnoliasinbloom I was on 200mg twice a day, so I first dropped the morning pessary, then a week later I just did one evening pessary every other night, then a week later completely stopped.
