Morning all,

I've woken up this morning to some brown discharge and since I'm a very anxious person now gone into full on panic mode. Anyone have any similar issues where this has worked out OK? I'm 5 weeks +4 and asked the Doctor to call me later. Just need a little hand hold and reassurance please Sad

Brown discharge is probably just a little bit of old blood. Very common throughout pregnancy. As a general rule, if it isn't bright red and fresh, it's usually not a big deal. Try not to panic.

I have had this throughout my pregnancy so far and it’s very worrying so I hope you’re okay, I was told not to worry if brown and only if red and fresh. I did have a red bleed around the 7 weeks point so had an early scan which showed everything was fine, the brown spotting continued after that but the EPU told me not to worry and only call back if red again. It’s now reappeared at 10/11 weeks so trying to stay calm but completely understand the worry 😩 I hope this helps and that you’re okay xxx

Thank you both for your reassurance Flowers I'm usually such a logical person, but when anxiety takes hold, logic and sense goes out the window and I panic! @AbbiL0u I hope all goes well with you xx

I had brown and sometimes red discharge in both pregnancies. Like you I am anxious and at the beginning ended up having scans, midwives thought I was crackers I think!!

It’s totally normal, try not to worry xx

Many women seem to get this in early pregnancy. Brown blood is often old blood, possibly from implantation or cervical irritation.

For me it went the other way, around 6 weeks I had some brown spotting which unfortunately progressed to red and clotty and it was an early miscarriage.

Got pregnant immediately afterwards though and am now 25 weeks.

I had this at around 5 weeks and it lasted for 10 days. I'm now sitting with a beautiful 12-week old baby lying next to me.

The doctor did tell me at the time that it could go either way. My mother said to put my feet up, and the GP did, too. I was sceptical. Who knows if that is what helped, but I did it and now I have a baby.

Good luck, OP. Hope it all goes well for you.
