Emergency room saw nothing on scan

Hi everyone,
I have been in and out of doctors this week with hypermesis gravidarium and today was sent to hospital for an IV. When I saw the doctor she very quickly tried to do scan and then said 'no I can see nothing, you'll have to come back for an internal scan'. She was so casual in the way she said it but obviously I am freaked out.
I have been very sick and have had lots of symptoms and no bleeding. My period would date me as being 8/9 weeks pregnant but my periods have always been irregular so I'm hoping this just means it's too early to see anything?
Ah the worry Flowers

Are you in the UK, OP? I don't think those little portable scanners they have in A&E are that good, plus the doctors probably aren't experts at scanning with them. Did they refer you to the EPU or something instead, where they have proper scanners?

Hi, I'm in Ireland but it's probably similar. As I said she was very quick and has referred me for an internal scan on Friday. I'm super scared now but surely having all of this morning sickness must mean something

How far along are you? Before 6/7 weeks it's very difficult to see much. I had a scan at 6 weeks and they couldn't see a thing but was much clearer with an internal scan. As previous poster said those portable scans probably aren't the best. I wouldn't worry if you have all those symptoms!

When I had an early scan at 7 weeks (I went private due previous MC) they had to do an internal scan to see anything x

My obstetrician did internal scans up until week 8 because she was worried I’d be concerned if we couldn’t see anything on an abdominal scan (even if there was nothing to worry about).

If there’s a chance that your dates are out then it might just mean that it’s a little bit too early (especially if you’re dehydrated from hyperemesis and don’t have a full bladder/the scan that’s available in A&E doesn’t always have the clearest picture).

I hope everything goes well for you!

Hi, if you go by the dates of my last period I should be 8/9 weeks but my periods have been very irregular, hence why it took us sometime to get pregnant. I'm trying not to worry now

@chocolateaddict231 I was referred for an early scan at (what I thought was) 8 weeks, they explained it would be internal as they can’t usually find anything when under 9 weeks, turned out I was actually 7 weeks 1 day and found baby with internal scan. I hope this reassures you a little and good luck for Friday! xx
