Have you had h.pylori treated and then become pregnant?

Hello. I have a bit of a strange question, but I am wondering if there are any mumsnetters who have had h.pylori bacteria found and treated and then gone on to have a successful pregnancy?

I'm currently having my second early miscarriage, and they found h.pylori in my stomach in February, it was treated early March. It has been linked to miscarriage so I was hoping my first loss, in Jan, may have been linked to it but that now it is treated this won't be an issue. However I'm now having a second loss 😞 it could be to do with other things of course, but I've read that the antibodies from an h.pylori infection can interfere with conception and maintaining a pregnancy, and of course even after the infection has been treated, these antibodies do not entirely go.

I'm hopeful it isn't this that is causing the losses. I'm in a bit of despair, wondering if somehow I'm now infertile. My first pregnancy happened quickly and resulted in a beautiful baby girl so I'm very confused as to why I'm now experiencing this.

Any info or experiences that you'd like to share would be appreciated. Tia xx

So sorry for your loss and what you're going through.

I haven't had a pregnancy following h pylori infection, but i wanted to reply and let you know that the initial treatment wasn't successful for me, and I had to have a second course. So perhaps you still have some h pylori?

Hope you get some answers soon

Thank you @Appin. How did you find out you still had it?

The doctor said that they could do a stool test after 3 months since I had the treatment but not before. I'll ask again though, considering the mc.

Anyone else become pregnant while having/after treating h.pylori?

Hi had h.pylori show up in a sample a few years ago. I didn't know if any connection with fertility issues.

I was treated and just had a baby boy a week ago.

I'm so sorry you are experiencing this.

I had h.pylori treated in the December/early Jan. I'd had a miscarriage the previous October and had another the following May which ive no idea if were linked. I am an 'older mother' at 35 and needed IVF so the loses could have been totally unconnected. My clinic were not bothered by the H. Pylori once Id been treated for it . Successfully conceived in August and I'm now 37 weeks along with everything looking good so far.

Hi @Skylark1990 I know it’s been a while and I was really sorry to have read about your miscarriages ❤️ I’m in a similar situation and quite worried… there’s not much at all about real experiences with H Plori and fertility so I’m hoping you could shed some light on your journey and how you’ve got on since? 🙏

Skylark1990 · 13/12/2023 08:15

@Lucylee7 sorry to hear you are experiencing similar! After 3 early miscarriages I got pregnant July 2022 again and had a beautiful little girl in April this year. She's 8 months now. 🧡
My stomach on the other hand is really not good, I have gastritis and having to do a very restricted diet ATM! My advice is make sure your tum heals well through diet, minimising stress and medication if needed. It can take a while after h pylori.
Sending lots of luck to you xx
