Baby movement

This is my first baby, I'm just wondering, I read loads of different things about this. I'm 17 weeks and I've not felt any movement at all yet, is it true that for your first baby it is closer to 20 weeks? Or has anyone felt earlier than this with a first baby? X

I'm pregnant with my second, first was born 21 years ago. I'm 19+3 and haven't felt anything I don't think. I've got a doppler so I know the baby is alive.

I'm sure it's just to early for us both, everyone is different and depends if you have an anterior or posterior placenta. I was told I had a posterior placenta but I don't know. I've got my 20w scan next week.

@Carebear99 this is definitely reassuring for me thank you. I was going to get a Doppler but I am way too anxious and knew that if I couldn't find anything I would just stress myself out more.

I'm not sure where my placenta is, I'm having a private scan done this week so hopefully that'll explain more and fingers crossed baby is okay 🤞

I think because this is my first I don't really know what to expect/ when to expect it xx

Completely normal! Lots of people don't feel movement until 20 weeks regardless of placenta position. The first movements might feel quite similar to wind, or like a light tickle or flutter. They are so small at this stage that they can happily be moving about without it being a place you can feel :)

@GrowBabyGrow okay thank you so much for this reassurance x

I have an anterior placenta (placenta is at the front) and felt some very small movements for the first time when I was 21 weeks and 6 days (I was laying down on the sofa)! I am now feeling everyday but mainly when I am sat down or relaxing - I think when I'm in work I'm so busy and miss them! When I had my 20 week scan they told me that it could be up to 24 weeks x

DD1 hardly moved at all when I was pregnant. DD2 never stopped.
They are still the same now and they are in their 20s!

22 weeks with an anterior placenta.
