Asprin and permanently bloated

Hi I’m 42 and 22 weeks pregnant and midwives have prescribed low dose of asprin till birth of baby due to my age.
I have been taking it since 16 weeks, I take it with meals in the morning. I am not tolerating it well, I feel nauseous with acid reflux, permanently bloated thus lethargic and feel miserable. GP prescribed gaviscon which only helped with the acid reflux. I tend to eat well, drink a good amount of water and eat smaller portions, tried ginger and peppermint tea, all this hasn’t helped. I stopped taking asprin for the last two days and today I feel miles better and can get on with things. I have another child to look after. I have read online about the benefits of aspirin in older women so understand the importance of taking it. Has anyone experienced similar and how did they navigate the situation? Please share I feel hopeless !

I am also taking it due to age and therefore risk of preeclampsia. Fortunately no side effects for me.

However, I was advised by both gynaecologists to take it at night time, I do this just before going to sleep. Something to do with aspirin working better when it's taken at night?

Maybe you could give that a go?

Hi @Regenbogen22, thanks I will give it a go, my pharmacist advised taking it during the day as it would give more time to work it off! Glad your not having any side affects Smile.

I took asprin from 12 weeks to 36 weeks for preeclampsia risk (i still went on to have pregnancy induced hypertension at 38 weeks, so only partially successful). I was also told to take it at bedtime as it is more effective overnight. I would have a small dry biscuit (also helped with my "morning" sickness Hmm) plus the asprin and had no significant bloating.

I’m taking it too, also 22 weeks, due to previous pre eclampsia. I take it before bed and haven’t had any side effects, maybe try that?

I will try taking it just before I go to bed. Here’s to hoping !
