Mucus plug colour after sweep?

I had a sweep this morning, straight after I had a tiny bit of bleeding! It's now gotten heavier, not enough to wear a pad, just when wiping but it's bright red with a little bit of mucus? Is this normal!!

I had a sweep yesterday and my midwife said spotting was to be expected (even bright red) as the cervix is irritated but any heavier blood loss to get checked out. I’ve lost a bit of plug since and there was a bit of red/brown tinge to one bit but that’s it. Good luck!

@Peelspeelspeels have you have any cramping? And if you don't mind me asking what did they say at the sweep?

The told me my cervix was very soft, and 1cm long, and I was nearly 3cm dilated but not quite.

I've been getting awful back ache the last couple of nights so put it down to that.

Yes it is your membranes have been very disturbed I was the same I walked and walked and walked then walked more and nothing happened sadly and by two days the bleeding had settled for me. Hopefully for you it’s a different story but I guess I just wasn’t ready enough

Midwife said my cervix was anterior, soft, about 1cm long too and 2cm dilated but that was mostly because I’ve had a baby before. She was able to do a good sweep though. I had the feeling of being saddle sore that I got before going into labour with my son, and lots of braxton hicks and a bit of back ache but nothing period pain like or proper contractions. It all seems to have settled down now though so I don’t think it’s going to put me into labour like I was hoping!

Think I may have just lost the full plug but I'm not sure, it's all stringy and huge! Still pinky tinged but the bleeding after the sweep stopped last night so assuming this is the plug 😬😬

Sounds exactly how my labour started (without the sweep). Smile

SaraKitty · 15/04/2022 14:40

I’ve had 3 sweeps , I’m 39+1 now and have only lots small bits of plug some blood tinged so if you say it’s huge that sounds like a very good sign . Fingers crossed !

Still pregnant 😳😳😳 I'm not sure it was the plug, it was huge, very stringy but more of a red then a pink! Was like a ball off goo! But I lost something this morning that looked more like the plug, with pink streaks init. Still nothing so far though 😬

I’m still pregnant too - losing some small amounts of clear/white/pale yellow mucus when I go to the loo but that’s it. At least I’m getting to enjoy the nice weather rather than being stuck in hospital!

boymummys · 16/04/2022 19:06

@Peelspeelspeels it's so annoying isn't it! The amount I've lost surely there can't be much more up there! I'm getting some bad cramping in my hips and back just now in the bath. So hoping something is starting! With my first my waters broke first so I knew when I got pains they were contractions, this not knowing is so irritating! Yes I agree, tomorrow is my " original" due date! I had a scan at 7 weeks they said the 17th of April but dating scan said the 11th! But I've measured a week ahead the whole pregnancy. So wondering if the first scan was more accurate. My first was also born on his due date, so hopefully tomorrow is the day! Hoping it's not much longer for you!

Ah I hope it’s the start for you! I’m due on Monday but early scan and my dates would suggested not due til 4 days later, so I can’t even complain about being overdue yet, I’m just impatient. First baby was induced at 38 weeks and came 12 hours after a sweep and pessary, hence I was hoping a sweep would work by itself! Now I know it was clearly the hormones in the pessary last time…

SaraKitty · 19/04/2022 09:04

How’s everyone doing ? I’ve had 4 sweeps and being induced by ARM tomorrow if I don’t go myself before then which I have accepted will just not happen . I’m almost 3cm already at my sweep yesterday and very soft so hoping for a positive experience after they break my waters tomorrow.

boymummys · 19/04/2022 10:51

Waters have broke thank god 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Good luck all! Going in to be induced via pessary later today after some reduced movements yesterday. They gave me the choice of pessary or straight to breaking waters but I want to avoid the drip if possible so starting with a pessary as that worked last time. Another very vigorous sweep after being monitored yesterday hasn’t done anything!

SaraKitty · 19/04/2022 16:10

Congrats @boymummys ! I’ve had a very iffy day after my sweep yesterday . Very shaky feeling all day lots of Brixton hicks , loose bowels and my BP is higher than usual but not high enough to go for monitoring. Wondering will something happen later the night before my induction but wishful thinking .
