Hi all,

I am completely new to all of this and have just come off the mini pill to start trying for a baby. I am trying to work out how your due date is calculated if you decided to start trying as soon as you coming off the mini pill instead of waiting for your first natural period and got pregnant within this timeframe?

Intrigued to know if it’s calculated from date of coming off pill or if two weeks is added to this or something completely different!

Thanks in advance!

No idea, but you could use OPKs as soon as you stop taking the pill to see if you have an LH surge and possible ovulation? Then if you did get pregnant you could at least say that you think ovulation was on xx.xx.xxxx date and that might help with dating! Otherwise you would have to rely on dating scans, i.e. size of the baby.

The pill stops the follicles on your ovaries from growing. The follicles contain the eggs and it's the most mature egg in the largest dominant follicle that gets released every month.

The day you stop taking the pill might be considered as day 1 of your cycle therefore, your ovaries could begin the follicle growing process straight away and you would expect to ovulate around 14 days later.

Sometimes, you may have a withdrawal bleed 3-7 days after coming off the pill. In which case, day 1 of your cycle would be day 1 of your bleed.

It really all depends on how your body reacts to coming off the pill.

That’s really helpful thank you!! I will wait and see what happens. I wasn’t sure whether the withdrawal bleed “counts” as such as it isn’t a “normal period”.

I will be patient and wait and see what happens! Thanks so much. X
