BBT? Did you track this way?

Any ladies on here did you track using BBT as well as OPK or one but not the other?

If so, did it help you whilst TTC? My cycle lengths are varying slightly from what I've noticed but still within normal range.

I'm wanting to get a better idea of when and if and when I'm ovulating so thinking of tracking using BBT. Just been having a look at thermometers on Amazon in particular the easy at home one.

If anyone has used them before please let me know your thoughts 🙂🙂

I used both, the OPKs to predict ovulation and the BBT to confirm. You really have to be super consistent with the BBT, my alarm goes every day at 5am and so I took my temp at exactly the same time every day.

It helped me establish that my luteal phase was quite short so I asked to be put on progesterone for that, for example. I could also really focus our "efforts" Wink on the fertile week.

I used either the easy @ home or the femometer thermometers, I forget which since at some point I thought I'd lost one so replaced it with a different one Grin

I used both - OPKs to warn me when to put the effort in and BBT to confirmed it had happened. I did it mainly to take the guesswork out of the OPKs as in the months where I'd only used OPKs I often found myself worrying if I'd missed my peak or what if I have more than one LH surge and don't know about it because I stop testing after the first one etc. Tbh I found BBT a godsend in giving me peace of mind.

I just got a £10 femometer one off amazon - just make sure to use fertility friend for tracking as it really is so much better at detecting ovulation than all the other apps.

Oh yes, definitely use the Fertility Friend app for tracking!! It's quite basic in its appearance but you can input so much info and it definitely gives the clearest, easiest to read graphs!!

Thank you all 😊 so presumably you've all got pregnant with help from using OPK's and BBT as a guide to know when your ovulating/have ovulated?

Exactly! Plus a few other things that may or may not have helped

Thank you, I was going to try the concieve plus lube as well as I've heard good things about that. I've also started on some B Complex Vitamins once a day too! 🤞

I used both but pretty sure it dated me wrong. The month I got my bfp was the one month I stopped tracking and continued dtd past my predicted o date. My private scan dated me 3 days later than it would have with predicted o. Convinced this is one of the reasons it took us so long to conceive

Regenbogen22 · 12/04/2022 11:58

According to the Sperm Meets Egg Plan book (recommended) you should definitely DTD also after ovulation just in case it is delayed a bit...plus the egg can also live for a while in the fallopian tubes.

Thank you, I've ordered an easy at home thermometer and their brand of OPK's too! So we shall see how things go. CD7 today and they're arriving tomorrow, not sure when to start tracking?

OP posts:
Regenbogen22 · 12/04/2022 12:28

Start immediately! Well, tomorrow for the BBT, immediately on waking before you even get out of bed. The BBT thermometers sometimes take a little while until they record your max temp so give it a minute or so.

I would also start the OPKs immediately, since it could well be you ovulate early!

allthingssparkly · 12/04/2022 12:31

They're all arriving tomorrow at some point, so it won't be till Thursday morning when I can start BBT. What time of day is best to do the OPK testing? As I could start doing that tomorrow 😊

Regenbogen22 · 12/04/2022 12:43

I always did mine first thing. Started around CD8 doing one strip per day, and as my ovulation window got nearer I would do a second one in the early evening. Some LH surges can be short, didn't want to miss it!

The LH peak is when the test line is just as dark or darker than the control line. There'll always be a faint test line due to underlying LH levels.

I saved the strips and stuck them together to be able to see the line progression. Maybe TMI but I'll attach a pic!

Regenbogen22 · 12/04/2022 12:44

Ovulation should occur 12-24 hours after the LH peak , and after ovulation your BBT should rise, giving a nice graph! Plot into Fertility Friend each day!

allthingssparkly · 12/04/2022 12:48

Thank you 😊😊 @Regenbogen22

I will start them both on Thursday morning as I don't know what time they'll arrive tomorrow but no doubt it will be later in the day.

🤞🤞
