Have seen that there is a study that showed a slight increased risk for miscarriage with clotrimazole use. Clotrimazole is what is in the vaginal pessary and cream from canesten. Nhs website says its generally safe for use. Anyone used them both together and been okay? I have thrush and need to treat but so scared

Yes. I had so much problems with fungal infections when I was pregnant. It was mainly external so only used a pessary a couple of times but used buckets of cream, plus other types too. This was last year. I had no idea about the miscarriage risk. The pessary should be inserted without the applicator when pregnant.

Millions of women have used both when pregnant and had no negative effects.

Thrush is really common during pregnancy and canesten (or whatever the proper name is) is the treatment doctors prescribe.

I had thrush early in pregnancy and spoke to the dr who said pessary and cream both fine to use.

Nikki037297 · 11/04/2022 21:52

Yes in late pregnancy Iv used them both and been fine I was a actually given them at the hospital when I went in for regular braxton hicks and spotting and turned out it was thrush

Fleur405 · 12/04/2022 13:03

Yes used it multiple times (maybe 7 or 8)

Regularsizedrudy · 12/04/2022 13:05

Both fine. It’s only the oral tablet that’s best to avoid.

SickAndTiredAgain · 12/04/2022 13:11

Yes, I was prescribed them a few weeks ago.

Do you use canesten brand or the Dr prescribed a different one ? Or doesn't it matter?

Did you use canestsen or did the Dr prescribed it to you?

OP go to the pharmacy, get some Canesten pessary and cream and use it already. It is fine to use together. Do not use the applicator.
If they have another brand of Clomatrizole then by all means get that.

You do not need a prescription for it.

Please read what people have written, also on your identical second thread.

Regularsizedrudy · 12/04/2022 16:56

Oh boy just seen your other threads. You need to talk to your gp about your mental health. This level of worry is not sustainable.

Mummyme87 · 12/04/2022 17:20

It’s absolutely fine. I give it out to women all the time, and you need to use the pessary

MesMidgeMaisel · 12/04/2022 18:08

Just to add, you will need a prescription for it if pregnant. I was refused to purchase it over the counter when pregnant in Boots. They said they needed a prescription if you're pregnant.

Regenbogen22 · 12/04/2022 18:43

So you go and say "no I'm not pregnant" if they ask Confused

Regenbogen22 · 12/04/2022 18:45

Obviously depending on how far along one is and therefore how obvious it is!! Grin. Otherwise get someone else to get it.

The OP isn't far enough along to be unable to hide it though.
