Early Scan

So I had a scan six days ago and got dated 5wks 2days. Today I had another scan and was dated 5wks 5 days. Is this something to be worried about? Heart not beating yet but still early!

At this stage it's so small that dating is difficult. Hopefully they were doing a transvaginal scan since they are more accurate when it's so early.

Was there a reason you had scans a week apart?

I had bleeding so they wanted to make sure baby was progressing the original ultrasound was abdominal and the second was transvaginal

@Kaw10 got another in a weeks time just worrying as my first pregnancy was nothing like this!

Then it seems more likely that the first scan was out a bit.

I think this is normal. As mentioned above, dating scans are not full proof in terms of accuracy.

@Kaw10 Thankyou, should I request a transvaginal scan at my next one? As going by todays date I’ll not even be 7 weeks yet?

I would, if you don't mind them! They don't bother me

The first abdominal scan I had was at the much longer and more detailed 12 week anomaly scan, and even then she switched to "dildo-cam" because she wasn't seeing enough detail abdominally.

My scans at 8 and 11 weeks were vaginal, my gynaecologist said she wouldn't even attempt abdominal scans so early.

@Kaw10 they don’t bother me 🙈 maybe if it was my first but after labour I don’t think anything will 🙈

She did say everything looked fine and hopefully they’ll catch a heartbeat next time! I’ll be closer to 7 weeks

At 7 weeks I'm sure you'll see much more!
