Yes, I had a horrendous stomach bug when pregnant and didn’t eat for 2 days. Had a 9lb baby a couple of months later and all was well!

NotADressPerson · 10/04/2022 15:44

I couldn't eat much for 6 weeks... don't worry, I'm sure your baby is fine. How far along are you?

hfjdndhgts · 10/04/2022 15:52

Which week did this happen?

Yes. I got norovirus at 38 weeks pregnant and didn't eat any food for 48 hours. Just water and rehydration salts. I was fine and so was the baby. It's dehydration that's the risk rather than lack of food for a day or two.

Your body has reserves.

southOfthegarden · 10/04/2022 16:21

I had HG and barely ate for a few weeks and within that time had periods of up to 72 hours no food at all just fluids via iv and baby was fine x

beattieedny · 10/04/2022 16:22

I barely ate during my second two pregnancies, including many long periods of nothing but a hydration drip. All my babies were 7lb and perfect. Most of human history has involved long periods of hardship and, while not ideal, we have survived.

beattieedny · 10/04/2022 16:24

Also, you'll feel utterly crap, but your lovely baby is safe and gets all the goodness from your reserves. If you feel you may be dehydrated, that's worth calling for advice about for sure, but even that, the baby gets all the goodies and poor mum gets zip, lol. Get well soon!

I as very sick through my first pregnancy and lost 2 stone.
I ate what I could when I could and my baby was fine

Lady0racle · 10/04/2022 16:31

I had HG while pg and went several days without eating more than once. I was hospitalised for dehydration and that is a cause for concern but not eating for a day or so won’t do you or the baby any harm.

BTDT. Bad morning sickness, noro.

I know a few people who lost weight all thru pregnancy (slowly, from plump start place) & still had perfect babies at end.

Hugasauras · 10/04/2022 16:51

Yep, I had Norovirus at about 12 weeks and didn't eat for 48 hours. I felt like crap but no impact on baby!

kate288 · 12/04/2022 10:01

@hfjdndhgts I also had a stomach bug a few days ago and I'm 12 weeks. I worried about this too but from what I've read baby with be totally fine, main thing is to stay hydrated.

I didn’t eat for 3 days recently due to norovirus. I had a growth scan last week and the baby is above average. In all 3 pregnancies I’ve been unable to eat much at all until 20 weeks due to bad morning sickness and have had 2 very healthy babies. My second was 9lb. I’m pretty sure they take what they need from you and a few days of not eating won’t cause any issues.

Seeline · 12/04/2022 10:57

I had really bad morning sickness and barely ate weeks 6-14. No harm done - he's a strapping 20yo now!
