IVF baby measuring behind at 7+5 scan

Hi ladies

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this?
I'm 7+6 weeks pregnant after FET.
My clinic scanned me yday to confirm the pregnancy but couldn't see the fetal pole or heartbeat, but when they referred me to my EPAU the sonographer there found the fetus and heartbeat however the little guy is only measuring 23mm so 6 weeks (when I was actually 7+5 weeks) they prepared me that I'm likely to miscarry. Has anyone had any similar experience?

Not after Ivf but had a 7 weeks scan at a private place stupidly googled the measurements and they were way behind. All worked out ok that time.

I've also had an Epu scan that was way behind, no heartbeat found but they were very cagey. I was bleeding and that was a loss, but they still insisted I come back in a week to check. I eventually had a surgical removal as it went on for weeks,

It sadly is a waiting game. Did they say much at the epu scan ?

I did with my baby kind of similar I went for my early scan measured 5+2/3 was to go back in 2 weeks where I should have been 7+3 and they scanned me baby measured 5+6. I said no no no!!! It was a different person scanning me and I said I was 5+3 two weeks ago so how can the baby only have grown 3mm in 2 weeks!!! They said because there was been some progress they had to discharge me. I wasn’t happy so booked a private scan for a week later where I should have been 8 weeks. Went for my scan there was my baby measuring almost 8 weeks/ no idea what had happened but I carried to term. Do you feel pregnant?

greenmeansNogo · 08/04/2022 13:38

@Nikki037297 where they all private scans? I wonder if the private places aren't as accurate as the NHS? Although there's 3.5 years between my 2 DC (at the same hospital) and the scans are so different, so I suppose it can also depend on the scanner and the age of the equipment.

Atnaforange · 08/04/2022 13:52

@Nikki037297 yes I'm still sick have sore boobs etc but that's to be expected my HCG levels are normal and baby still has a strong heartbeat at the moment so I am pregnant. I'll be back for a scan next week so hopefully baby will have caught up

Hopefully all will be fine. I have read mixed stories but unfortunately for me both times when I was told I was measuring smaller than I should for dates I went on to miscarry. Hope you have a better outcome. Mine were both NHS scans by the way.

koalalala · 08/04/2022 14:00

Not IVF so I don't know if it changes it as I guess I'm not SURE when I conceived but I had a scan when I should have been 7 weeks ish and was measuring 5 ish weeks. Scan was EPU as I'd had bleeding and was still spotting. Absolutely gruelling two week wait for knowing I was likely to have miscarried as I knew when the last time I'd had sex was and it didn't add up ( would have mean i had ovulated 7 days later than expected and had sex 6 days before ovulation.
Scan showed a heartbeat two weeks later. Another 2 weeks showed normal progress and I'm now 19 weeks.
Turns out I clearly did just ovulate late & still conceived (I know they say 7 days but unlikely but it happened).

Atnaforange · 08/04/2022 14:03

@Starryskiesinthesky yeah I want to be realistic about it so I know the outcome is rarely positive. Hope you don't mind me asking how long after the scan did you miscarry?

23mm is no way 6 weeks. I had a 5.7mm CRL yesterday and got told that was 6+1 - I'd be asking for another scan

Atnaforange · 08/04/2022 14:28

@greenrj sorry your right it's 0.23cm

I’m currently measuring a lot behind what I thought but the EPU told me yesterday they don’t worry about a week or two this early even when you’re sure of dates as what they’re trying to measure is so so tiny. Really hoping for the best for you

Starryskiesinthesky · 10/04/2022 14:55

Hi, the first time I didn't miscarry until about 2-3 weeks later. My symptoms suddenly stopped overnight tho and I knew it was not looking good. The next time it was discovered at a scan and then I didn't miscarry so had to go and get tablets to induce miscarriage.

Atnaforange · 19/04/2022 10:28

Just wanted to update the thread. I'm still in limbo at my 2nd scan last week baby had doubled in size and heartbeat was still very strong. They said its still likely to have a negative outcome but they have seen situations where babies catch up so it could go either way and to come back in 2 weeks for a scan at 11 weeks. I'm 10 weeks this week. The thing is before the last scan all my symptoms hac disappeared i was certain baby was gone but this week I'm back feeling ill and sore boobs are back..... can hormones from a miscarriage mimick pregnancy hormones? I feel like I'm going crazy.

I appreciate that you know 100% when your body received the fertilised egg as you’ve had IVF. I wondered if delayed implantation into the lining of your womb could still be possible, which would make the growth of your baby a little behind the official dates. It is good news that baby is growing and has heartbeat. All the best with the wait for your next scan at 11weeks.

Atnaforange · 19/04/2022 11:16

@Arucanafeather I think late implantation is definitely what happened because my HPT
on official test day was really faint however that's part of the problem because the later an embryo implants the less likely it is to survive.

"If a fertilized egg implanted by the ninth day, it had only a 13 percent chance of loss. The risk rose to 26 percent if the implantation was on the tenth day, 52 percent on the eleventh day, and 82 percent thereafter. All three implantations after day 12 ended in early loss."

I think mine would be day 11 or 12 so significant chance of loss

I didn’t know that. We had multiple miscarriages and I remember still how long a week waiting for a scan can feel. It was all consuming for me and also lonely at times. All the best for your next scan next week.

Atnaforange · 19/04/2022 14:36

@Arucanafeather I'm sorry you've been through so many losses it's so hard Flowers

I just wanted to update the thread because I know those in similar experiences (if anything like me) may come across it when googling.
Sadly our outcome was not a positive one. At 11 weeks baby had not grown since the last scan and their heart had stopped beating.

There are positive stories out there so don't give up hope but sadly for me it was a MMC.

Cakecakecheese · 28/04/2022 19:01

I'm so sorry. I also had a MMC after IVF and it's horrible. You think the hard part is getting pregnant and then this happens, it's so unfair. Lots of love x

Lulu106 · 02/08/2022 08:44

@Atnaforange I am so sorry to hear of your loss and the pain you experienced. We are currently in a similar position that our 7 week scan shows bubba only measuring 6 weeks and the yolk sac is enlarged. With IVF these are not good markers although we have a heartbeat. Can you share if your clinic followed up what might of caused the delay in growth? 🌈
