Baby Clothes - do you match vests to sleepsuits?

Bit of a random question. I'm a FTM and baby is due end of June and I'm currently trying to work out what clothes I need.

I don't understand the need for patterned or brightly coloured vests for under sleepsuits?

Are you able to see the vest under the sleepsuit a bit? If so, do you try to match the vest with the sleepsuit or not? I was thinking of just getting lots of white ones. Some of the patterned ones are cute but feel like it would annoy me if I could see the vest underneath and it doesn't match haha. Is that just me? 😆

I don't mean this in an unkind way at all, but once you actually have your baby, you won't give this a second thought! 😜 Any vests are fine. Congratulations!

NuffSaidSam · 07/04/2022 22:19

Is that just me?

Yes.

It does not matter one tiny bit. Have whatever colour vests/sleepsuits you want. Literally no-one cares (not even you when it's holding a screaming baby and covered in both sick and shit!).

Kay7766923 · 07/04/2022 22:19

I'm the same and ended up barely using the patterned ones we were given because they didn't match. He just has lots of white ones with a 50/50 mix of short and long sleeve. It's much easier to clean them then too.

ApolloandDaphne · 07/04/2022 22:19

I mostly just had white ones but tbh you really won't care when baby has a poonami and you need to change them ASAP.

IDontLikeMondays88 · 07/04/2022 22:28

I have an almost 2 year old and I care!

I like a white sleeveless vest generally.

Brightly coloured or patterned vests I use more like a t shirt

MiddleParking · 07/04/2022 22:29

I use the plain white for under sleepsuits at night and patterned/coloured ones for with outfits in the daytime. I know it doesn’t make a difference but I just like it.

mummyh2016 · 08/04/2022 08:19

No I just grab whatever is on top. Last night DS wore a navy blue vest with a white sleep suit. I don't care.

Flowerbug1994 · 08/04/2022 13:07

Your not the only one am due June and I only have white vests I know I’ll only ever put white vests on him and only buy white vests. It bugs me seeing patterned vests through clothes. I will admit though I am super super fussy and only like white and pale blue and have the tiniest bit of grey stuff.

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 08/04/2022 13:08

With my first baby I had everything to match
Baby number 2 - whatever was clean 🤪

Sprogonthetyne · 08/04/2022 13:13

I avoided white vest because I'm way to lazy to separate washing, any light colour won't show through. The bright or patterned ones are nice with dungarees or just on their own on hot days, but generally whatevers clean and to hand is what goes on.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/04/2022 13:15

The patterned ones are good with dungarees or leggings.

RockAndRollerskate · 08/04/2022 13:19

I matched the vest to the sleep suit for the outfits in the hospital and never again

Chocolatedigestives1842 · 08/04/2022 13:22

I like a patterned long sleeve vest under dungarees. But for anything else I just shove on what ever is clean.

WlNDMlLL · 08/04/2022 13:25

I had a July baby and they didn't wear a layer over their vest in the day - so it would be vest and dungarees or leggings, with a cardigan if needed.

ohidoliketobe · 08/04/2022 13:29

Patterned ones are generally worn at night time or kept for nursery. Plain white in the day here for the reasonsnyouve mentioned. And nope, not a PFB, on my 3rd DC and still winging it!
Fwiw, I'm a big fan of the Next organic plain white packs. I get a pack of sleeveless, short sleeved and long sleeve at each size stage. Nice and thick and wash well.

Every day I find a new way I'm doing it wrong - I've never put a vest under a sleepsuit, it never even occurred to me... How does everyone else know this stuff 🤦‍♀️

Babies need one layer more than what we are wearing so a vest is the easiest way to start layering.
beattieedny · 08/04/2022 13:38

Whatever is clean was the way for us, through a fog of exhaustion and hormones lol. Honest to God, you won't gaf.

peachgreen · 08/04/2022 14:14

I had mostly white ones so I could boil wash them (extra important when it comes to weaning!) but the patterned ones are lovely under dungarees or with leggings.

I mean, she's nearly two so I think I've missed the boat on it. I only clicked the title because I was intrigued by what it meant 🤦‍♀️😭
