Cyclogest (progesterone) untill 12 or 16 weeks?

Hello,

For those who have had a previous miscarriage and were prescribed progesterone in the first trimester (due to rmc or early pregnancy bleeding) how long were you prescribed them for and at what dose?

I am currently on 400mg twice a day untill 12 weeks but all the guidelines is saying 16 weeks and my GPs are confused about how long to prescribe

Hi, after multiple miscarriages I was prescribed cyclogest for the first 12 weeks. It was 200mg morning and night. So, 400mg daily.
My son is now 3 so I don't know if things have changed but there was never a discussion about me taking it longer. I always knew (before I'd even conceived!) I'd get it for the 12 weeks.
I do remember reading about it at the time and some women seemed to take it longer. But I guess that was down to individual treatment plans!

Blackbirdflyintothelight · 07/04/2022 15:44

I was advised to take it until 16 weeks.

I think I took 2x200mg daily until 12 weeks, then tapered off and completely stopped at 14. But neither doctor was too bothered about when exactly after 12 weeks, so I guess until then is important.
I had tons of pessaries still in the box so didn't have a problem with continuing. Keeping them for next time!

I was advised to take until 16 weeks, but I asked for some more to wean myself off it and they were fine.

I’d just ask to extend as it gets closer the time.

I'm pregnant through IVF and have had 2 miscarriages. I was told until 11-12 weeks.

Easymeasy · 07/04/2022 17:33

I'm taking until 28 weeks.

JuniperAndTonic · 07/04/2022 18:29

I was given enough supply until 16 weeks from my EPAU - been taking it since I had some bleeding at 6 weeks.

Thanks everyone! Seems like it's so different for everyone then no wonder my GP was confused!

I have now been given enough for 16 weeks as per the NICE guidelines :)

12 weeks here, after several miscarriages, then on to aspirin.

Hi, just a quick Q for those on this thread as I was also prescribed Cyclogest if I got a bfp, but I’ve read in other places that you can start taking them before you get a bfp as it helps to thicken the lining of the womb and therefore helps implantation, so some people start using them 3 days post ovulation, anyone else done this and it’s worked for them? I’ve had 2 chemical mc’s and 2 Medical mc’s so thought I might try taking the cyclogest before I even get the bfp this time…

Pollywoddles · 31/05/2022 04:55

My consultant left me on it until 26 weeks. I had a history of miscarriage but no known progesterone issues. His reasoning was it’s literal job is to support pregnancy so why wouldn’t you. He’d have left me on it longer but I was fed up of it by then.

Pollywoddles · 31/05/2022 04:57

@41FerrisWheels I was always instructed to take them at 2 dpo. The progesterone helps plump up and maintain you lining so no reason to wait until bfp.

Regenbogen22 · 31/05/2022 05:28

@41FerrisWheels yep, instructed by gynaecologist to take from 2/3dpo. You absolutely have to confirm ovulation though (not by random apps telling you!!).

I'm not sure why people would wait an extra week until BFP, if there is indeed a slight problem with early progesterone production from the corpus luteum.

Of course you need to have the pessaries already to begin just after ovulation.

Regenbogen22 · 31/05/2022 05:29

.....to add, you take a test on 12dpo. If positive, continue with the pessaries. If negative, stop and wait for your period to start

41FerrisWheels · 31/05/2022 07:37

Thank you @Pollywoddles and @Regenbogen22 i will certainly try this next cycle then, I can order some of the ovulation tests to make sure, much appreciated!
