Twin mums, when did you go into Labour?

As the title says..
I am expecting twin girls and I'll be having a c section at 37 weeks (5th august) but my consultant tells me most twins come naturally on their own. I'm worried it will end up being a emergency c section and a lot more stressful. What week did you have your twins? 💖

I had a planned c section at 36+6. No natural labour :)

CoalCraft · 07/04/2022 09:28

Not me but my sil went into labour naturally at 36 weeks. Straightforward vaginal delivery of both babies, though she was fortunate that both were in good positions.

poorbuthappy · 07/04/2022 09:30

Booked for a section at 36 weeks. Went into labour at 34 weeks,
Ended up with emergency section as twin 1 got stuck.
All good now - they're 13!

twinsetandpearl · 07/04/2022 16:00

Emergency due to detached placenta - 34 weeks x

Donimo · 07/04/2022 16:23

@BunnieMilk have you already got a planned c section date? I am 24 weeks pregnant with MCDA twins and my consultant hasn't really discussed delivery at all. I have an appointment tomorrow and thinking should I be discussing this now?

BunnieMilk · 07/04/2022 17:38

@Donimo ah no they haven't gave me a date yet but they said it will be at 37 weeks (not bang on but around that time) only because of twins and the birth of my son left me with lots of pelvic problems

I went in for induction at 37+3. I was 5cm dilated already so I think they were ready!

I had a double forceps delivery as twin 1 had an enormous head and was presenting at a funny angle.

I know plenty of twin mums who made it to 36/37 weeks, they don’t always come early.

MuchTooTired · 08/04/2022 18:38

I had a surprise elcs with mine at 36+5 due to severe pe. Originally was booked for 38+2 but had no intention of lasting that long!

Didn’t have a single hint of Labour starting, my two were seemingly not coming out without intervention.

NancyDrawed · 08/04/2022 19:06

Planned CS due to suspected IUGR at 34+4 (MCDA)

There were some sharp intakes of breath when Twin 1 was pulled out as was over 5lb! Twin 2 was under 4lb though, so they probably were better out than in.

Best of luck OP. Twins are amazing but I did find the early days a bit relentless! I look back fondly now, though - they are in year 7

Natural labour at 28 + 1. A stay on NICU and home after 10 weeks. Now healthy and non stop 11 year olds!

YerAWizardHarry · 08/04/2022 19:11

My mum went to the 39+2 with myself and my sister back in 1993! She wanted to go home and watch Neighbours and while she progressed…

mamatoTails · 08/04/2022 19:13

Section at 37+4. They had no intention of coming on their own!

doodlejump1980 · 08/04/2022 19:23

Induced at 37+6. Then emergency section (after 8 hours of active labouring).
DCDA boys 7lbs5 and 6lbs4. No nicu needed thankfully!

tearinghairout · 08/04/2022 19:29

Congratulations, OP. Mine came naturally at 30 weeks. I was pretty stressed at the time and had been overdoing it physically - not sure if this contributed to the early labour or not. They were in SCBU for 13 weeks. Get yourself some help if you can for the first few weeks (months!). Mine are 28 now!

334bu · 08/04/2022 19:29

Induced at 35 because of HBP, both forceps delivery.

Sharkter · 08/04/2022 19:31

32 weeks after my waters went in the middle of the night totally unexpectedly. Everything had been totally normal until then

ladygindiva · 08/04/2022 19:33

Planned section at 37 weeks, no sign of labour occurring at any stage. Same for the other 4 twin mums I know.

BunnieMilk · 08/04/2022 22:10

Wow mamas it's amazing to hear these stories!
And @YerAWizardHarry I can't believe they let your mum go that long with twins but I'm glad they were born safe

YerAWizardHarry · 08/04/2022 22:50

@BunnieMilk we were born vaginally weighing 6lbs 3oz and 6lbs 9oz as well!

ladygindiva · 09/04/2022 07:10

My twins were 6 lb 2 oz and 6lb 9 oz 😁

Gunpowder · 09/04/2022 07:15

Mine (DCDA) came after a sweep at 37+0.

Good luck OP! The first few weeks were a blur for me but twins are such fun.

Onetwo34567890 · 09/04/2022 07:17

Induced at 38 weeks, never any talk of a planned section but had to give birth in theatre just in case!
Both came naturally combined weights of 10.5lbs.

Curlyshabtree · 09/04/2022 07:54

Natural labour (and birth) at 36 weeks. Would have been induced at 37+2 if nothing had happened.
