Clexane in pregnancy

Hi ladies

I’m 32+5 today (IVF pregnancy) and been on aspirin since week 18 (consultant said I should have started in week 12-14 and was surprised why my midwife hadn’t told me)
Saw a different consultant today who asked if I started on Clexane injections at week 28 and I said no because no one has told me (which he was surprised about as well)

Anyway will start tonight just wanted to ask when everyone else started? I’m a bit worried if it’s too late to start now that I’m almost 33 weeks 🤷🏻‍♀️

I assume you have a clotting issue, I had clexane in all my pregnancy the first pregnancy I was about 33 weeks. As far as I understood it is to prevent clots so whilst it would have been better to start earlier to prevent a clot the fact you haven't had one is what matters. So taking it now will stop one between now and delivering.
I couldn't do it in my bump, did them all in my bum.

Hi @Ducksurprise Thank you for your reply. I haven’t got any clotting issues. I was started on aspirin because it’s an IVF pregnancy and I’m over 35 so consultant said I’m high risk.

I couldn’t do it in my bump either so did it in my upper thigh.

I didn't know it was used in IVF pregnancies but anything to help. I had it as my blood started clotting weirdly in my legs, I wore flight socks as well I actually found them comfortable once I got the right side.
I became squeamish (didn't stop me having more children I appreciate how lucky I was to not need help) and couldn't do it to myself in the end. Had to get DH to do it but then began to think he enjoyed it too much Grin (he is T1 so it's normally the other way round)

Start asking now what to do with the sharps box, (or make sure you taken it in with you when you go into labour) as it is surprisingly difficult to get the NHS to take it back.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, I'd love to hear the BA.

I started at 28 weeks. Mine were precautionary due to risk factors for clotting which sounds similar to you so I don't think it's an issue that you are starting a few weeks later. If you had previously had a clot then I'm sure they would have picked up sooner.

I had a csection so also had to take them for 6 weeks after birth - by then I had run out of skin to poke.

I’ve used clexane injections for a week now and got bruises all over my thighs 😅
Any tips on how to avoid bruises lol?

Sadly I can't be of any help of the bruises front. They last for ages though, I still have bruises from when I started taking clexane three weeks ago. Good idea to go in the thigh too - that's where I've been doing mine.

IVF pregnancy too and had to use heparin but only in the first trimester. Did them in my belly or hips, hurts less than thighs. And sadly bruised can’t be avoided.
