Scan inaccuracy/discrepancies

Ugh!

Just been for another scan due to my last 2 showing a drop from percentile.

Now apparently the baby is a whopper and I've an induction date for this Friday.

I mean...how accurate are scans?!

Currently baby is way up on the 100% percentile (last 3 scans were 90% - 50% - 45%) and weighs 9lb4!)

Just had a sweep were my cervix was still 1cm long and my bishop score was 6 so I'm a little anxious about induction based on not seeming ready to labour.

Just wondering if all signs are pointing to C-section for me now.

So difficult to make any decisions

In my experience, inaccurate for baby 1 (missed the fact at 36w that baby was in fact a whopper) but accurate for baby 2, at 36w again normal size, born at normal size. Not very helpful!

From experience with my first they told me he was measuring big, they told me he was estimated at 9lbs. He came on his due date at 7.7lbs!

It's my due date in five days with my second and he's over the 95 centile. Midwife and consultant saying different things. Midwife chart he's not even on the line anymore, and at my 38 weeks scan he was estimated at 6.15 lbs. So assuming if its correct they grow on average half a pound each week by due date he will be nearly 8lbs. I'll let you know once he decides to show up.

Have they mentioned a c section to you?

With my second I had a growth scan at 38 weeks that said 9lbs, he came that night at 7lb6oz 🤣

When you say whopper, what weight were you talking..and did you deliver naturally?

I've been hoping for something friendly with a 7 in front but seemingly that's not the case.

Scans had him being born top end of 8lbs but he's shut up in the last week according to the scan to be mid 9lb and potentially bigger 😬😬

They did say c section to an option but given it's my third pregnancy and I've have straight forward births that there's no real reason to think otherwise.

I've heard you show size correlated to your pelvis width. Only from a friend who is 5ft and her husband is 6ft 1. She said whisky she was battling through labour for hours various midwives kept asking her how tall her hubby was and what her shoe size was...turns out her size 4 feet weren't getting rhat baby out of her pelvis and she needed a c section ♥️

I'm a size 7 so hopefully that's a good sign

But nervous though. I've had 2 sweeps over the last 2 days...bishop score 6 so hoping on Friday I'm a little further along

Oh I really hope for this outcome. A nice friendly 7 at the front 😆

@babydays123 my first was 8lb8oz and my third was 8lb4oz 😊 not bad births all round

koalalala · 06/04/2022 20:19

Lol they're not at all accurate. Repeatedly told my son was small and was having growth scans every 2 weeks from 30 weeks.

Delivered at 38 weeks and they were so concerned he was so 'tiny' they gave steroids before section as if he was Prem etc - he was 7lb 5oz.

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 06/04/2022 22:54

We had a scan on Tuesday afternoon, induced Wed morning, baby born Thursday Mornkng weighing 5g heavier than the scan in Tuesday. Pretty accurate for me.

MojoJojo71 · 06/04/2022 22:59

My first was 95th centile on scan, I was induced at 38+5 and he was 8lb 12oz.

twntho · 06/04/2022 23:05

My baby was estimated 9 1/2 pounds (elected) c section 2 days later she was 8 1/2 Grin
Growth scan was for reduced movements I was already having c section
I think weight predicting at the end is just a complete guess as they never seem to get it right
They also told me she had a massive belly and were concerned
She didn't

20viona · 07/04/2022 08:29

I was induced for
The opposite reasons as my daughter was small but at my final scan she was estimated at 5lb 6oz and she was born 4 days later at 5lb 3oz. so pretty close.
