My Girlfriend’s Stomach Twitching/Spasms – 4 weeks pregnant

Hello All, my name is Matt and I have a gf who is 4-8 weeks pregnant. I have joined this forum through the advice of my sister, who I think sets this site as her home page.

Anyway, we are both 25 and are expecting our first. Unfortunately 3 months ago my gf miscarried at 8-12 weeks (no cause) so we are anxious this term.

We found out she was pregnant last week, and even though we are both over-the-moon with the news, I think there is always a thought our worst fears will come true again. This is probably why I am writing on this forum.

Ever since my gf found out her pregnancy last week, she has been experiencing stomach twitches/spasms. They are particularly worse in the evening and in bed and occur intermittently (very 10-20 secs when they start). My gf says she gets them unconsciously when she thinks about being pregnant. I have put my hand on her when she gets them, and it feels like her top abdominal muscles are contracting (like putting those fitness electrodes on your stomach).

My gf says that whenever I question if she has them, it makes them worse. Therefore I don?t say anything and pretend not to notice it happening. She says it is not anxiety as she is calm, put she looks uptight.

Please can anyone let me know if this is normal or whether we should seek further advice from our GP. Given that my gf has miscarried before (and experienced similar symptoms), we need reassurance. Or has anyone experienced similar symptoms?

Before she took the test, I think she starting twitching in bed when she mentioned she felt pregnant. So could this be purely psychological? i.e wanting to protect her stomach.

Any advice is much appreciated
Matt

Hi Matty!

Just bumping up your post. This isn't anything that I've had experience of but hopefully someone will be along soon to help you out soon. Just keep bumping up your thread.

Congrats on the pregnancy, BTW and hope all turns out well.

Hi
Just noticed your thread and read with interest - I posted a thread on here earlier as I have been experiencing what i described as mild contractions everytime I am woken suddenly. It is very bizarre. I am naturally a bit of a jumpy person and am a bit stressed at the moment.

It has co-incided with my little girl suddenly not sleeping through the night and I get these funny twinges when her cries wake me suddenly. i would suggest they could be anxiety related as I think that's what's causing my reaction. i really want a good nights sleep at the moment and am not getting it - ironically, since the day I found out I was pg, my little one has been waking in the night - before this, she ALWAYS slept straight through. try and get your gf to relax and enjoy being pg - no point in stressing about what happened before, a lot of women miscarry their first child and then go on to have successful subsequent pregnancies. I am goin to go with the flow of my little one's new sleeping pattern - I'm just going to have to get used to it!! Well, just thought i'd let you know your gf isn't alone! Good luck and take care.

PS in my earlier thread i mentioned I have to have an early scan, deep down I feel it's not related to these twinges - I was on & off bleeding before these started

hello there,
I just read your post and know exactly how you feel.
I lost in january,I wasn't very far but it hurt all the same.
I have just foinud out I am 7 weeks along this week and I am over the moon, but can't help but worry!
I am a fairly anxious person, and naturally I am worried about this pregnancy ending, and I am experiencing alot of spasm/twitches in my stomach, they are not painful but abit uncomfortable.
I am worried I am harming the baby when I do this, but I cannot control it,as I think it is linked to my stress.
Anyway,I did give my midwife a call and she reassured me it will not do any harm,I hope this makes u feel at ease and helps you remember you are not alone Please let me know how you get on!!

Best wishes
