Bleeding early pregnancy - please help

I conceived through IVF and am 5 weeks pregnant tomorrow. This am when I went to the loo I noticed blood. It may have been due to straining but it was from my vagina (sorry tmi) I panicked. Cried a lot but then checked again a few minutes later there’s no more bleeding from there. Maybe it wasn’t therefore a period or miscarriage. I called the clinic and they said some women do get bleeding early pregnancy or it could be threatened miscarriage so to rest and hope that everything will be okay. It’s been around five hours since and no more blood so keeping my fingers crossed. Has anyone experienced? Any advice or reassurance would be massively experienced. Other than miscarriage why is there bleeding early pregnancy?

My pregnancy is also from IVF and I had a significant bleed (bright red and definately more than spotting) and lots of cramping at about 5w6d. I was convinced I had lost it but everything turned out OK (so far) and I'm now at 24w. I phoned my IVF clinic and EPU when it happened but but both said I would have to wait for the sceduled scan at the IVF clinic at 7w so it was an agonising wait. No reason was found for the bleed although I did have 2 embryos transferred and only one developed.

It's definitley a good sign that the bleeding stopped and cramps seem pretty common at that stage. Fingers crossed for you! I really hope everything turns out well for you too.

Just an update to you all -
I went in for bloods days later and my HCG levels are perfect so it was all okay thankfully! I guess bleeding in early pregnancy can be normal. I have my early 6 week scan next week so fingers crossed!
I did however do a light session at the gym today - only a half hour legs bums and tums class. I took it relatively easy and didn’t think I overexerted myself but then I had another little bit of blood after which freaked me out again!! It’s gone now so hopefully it’s fine as before. I think I may give the gym a miss from now on but I thought that it was okay to resume normal activity (to an extent)
What’s everyone’s thoughts - did any of you exercise during pregnancy? And do you know what could have brought on the bleeding after?

@BeccaT123 hey , today I am 6+6 and I woke up to bright red bleeding with red clots ! I panicked omg !!!! Went for a scan and baby was okay ! I had no pain or cramping just lots of red blood and clots ! So I’m in the same boat as you but worse , it’s so hard isn’t it ! Hope you’re doesn’t turn out like my heavy bleed today because it will freak you out !

@BeccaT123 I had a cervical ectropion along with my SCH so I had to take it super easy. I was on pelvic rest for the whole of my second pregnancy because of it.

I could still do yoga and some very light exercise which I did until about 27 weeks when I had another big bleed with my first. By that point with my second I was exhausted.

If you can, keep walking though. I will admit to giving into my chocolate orange craving as well as not being able to exercise much. I put on tons of weight while pregnant both times.

Oh no @ShareLove that sounds so scary but so glad you’re baby is okay!! Did they say what all that heavy bleeding and clots could be?? I’d def have freaked too! Glad alls ok xx

@BeccaT123 yes it was the SC hematoma , same as before ( last week ) but this time it was bright red with clots , last week at 5+6 it was dark red only 😀 I think you also have this but you might have tiny one which doesn’t bleed so much like mine xx

I lost my pregnancy today because of the large bleed .. I’m out xx so heartbroken !

Hi all, I’m needing some advice. I’m 5wks & 1 day pregnant. On Thursday I started having pink spots when I wipe wasn’t loads just afew. Then over the weekend it got a little bit light red/orange colour still not pouring just little bits. Not in any pain really so cramps just like little twinges in my lower stomach. Fast forward for to last night I got a bath and tried to relax due to having previous miscarriages I was absolutely terrified. When I got out of the bath there was no blood no nothing. When I woke up this morning there was nothing on the pad until I had my morning wee and then i had a little bit of blood in it and when I wiped again. Has anyone had any positive stories we’re there baby’s we’re good and was still pregnant. All opinions are welcome x

Just an update for everyone on this post and future people reading it.. I’m 10 weeks now and it was s haematoma. Thanks for all your reassuring words.
@Emilyjaynee666 If it was light bleeding and it stopped I think you’re likely okay. It could either be implantation bleeding coming out or may be what I had - subchronic hematoma. I still get light bleeding now but it stops.
My doctor also told me before I realised what it was that light bleeding could be a threatened miscarriage - and your body telling you to relax so whenever that happens just to chill and put your feet up.
Its great that the bleeding stopped and I am sure you are okay. If I was you I’d book in a private scan at 6 weeks to see if there’s a heartbeat and to check to see where the bleeding could be coming from as they will be able to tell you if it is SH.

Hi all,
I think I know what’s coming, I am 6+4 and had been experiencing various twinges throughout but I figured they were just normal adjustments my body was starting to make.
Yesterday morning I woke up and upon wiping was greeted by brown spotting, naturally I panicked but my mind was put at ease by others experiences of it being normal….. fast forward to yesterday late afternoon and the brown spotting turned to more of a dark red colour with clots in it.
Every toilet trip since has resulted in the same when wiping including today. My GP has referred me to EPU and I am booked in for Thursday morning. I think I already know the outcome, pics are yesterday as it started and this morning 😢😢
I’ve had mild cramping all the way through too so I believe I am now miscarrying
Any advice on getting through this with a positive mindset would be greatly appreciated

I'm so sorry @BakedBean2016 i probably would prepare yourself for the worst and hope for the best. You're not out until they say so.

i had a miscarriage two months back and got pregnant the next cycle. I didn't bleed at all with my first so knew it wasn't good news but lots of women do bleed and the babies are fine.

please let us know how you get on, I'll be thinking of you. I'm 7 weeks today and had brown discharge, I'm on edge and just want to go to sleep and wake up at 12 weeks. X

Hi, we’ve been trying for a baby and I’ve been 2 weeks late and I’m always regular I had 1 faint line and then all the rest negative been waiting for an urgent blood test from the doctors. Had all pregnancy symptoms. Light bleeding started yesterday on and off woke up this morning still not like a full period for me but a little heavy and a darker red. Is this normal at all going out of my mind trying not to stress. Thanks in advance

Hi, still bleeding when wiping and it is still red 😪 my appointment is tomorrow so will just be a case I think of waiting for them to come out and say it so that I can start to mentally heal and move on.
The cramping has subsided which is one good thing I suppose but I just really would like the bleeding to stop

@Diamondbabe And all, a little update for everyone today.
I went along to EPU for an internal scan which was a little unpleasant especially as I am still bleeding. After the scan the nurse told me that there was no viable pregnancy that could be seen.
I then had to wait to be seen by a nurse to discuss the results in full. After what felt like an age a nurse came and told me that I needed to go down to emergency gynaecology which was in the maternity department, i was worried as it was deemed an emergency but I was none the wiser as to what was going on.
i was seen by a registrar, my bp and temp was taken followed by a swab and an internal examination.
After a while we were finally seen by a consultant, it has been diagnosed as a pregnancy of unknown location. There is pregnancy tissue and hormones but not contained in the womb, there is a yolk sac at the bottom of the cervix with a few possible outcomes:
A: I am still going through the miscarriage and the yolk sac will pass soon
B: it become an ectopic pregnancy which has attached to the scar of my previous c section
C: it is too early and could still become a viable pregnancy

i have now been instructed to rest, no driving or lifting and I am not to be on my own as if it becomes an ectopic pregnancy and grows it will cause a rupture and I will need to be treated urgently

on Saturday I have to go for another blood test to check my hormone levels, if they have increased by approx 50/60% then it will appear that the pregnancy is growing and will need to discuss what happens next.
if there is a decrease then it will signal that the pregnancy is/has ended and the next steps will be discussed

i am not pinning my hopes on it becoming a viable pregnancy and even if it grows it could become dangerous to me
