I'm about 10/11 weeks pg. Had bad lower back pain all day. Just been to loo and past what seemed to be mucusy stuff but in a deep red brown colour. Not much of it but am worried.
This is a sign of a m/c is it?

bright red fresh blood is usually more of a danger signal, you do get increased mucus when in early pregnancy, and that can make any blood loss look bigger. perhaps you should give GP a call and see if you can be checked out, esp as you have had some back pain.

LikerabbitsBX · 07/01/2008 17:28

Hi hun,

This is fine, however please monitor it. If it comes with realy bad pains and red blood then call your gp.

This is normal to see spotting of pink and brown.

It's not normal to bleed in pregnancy but it is common. I would be tempted to ring your gp/midwife, if only to put your own mind at rest. Hundreds of MNers (including me) can tell you 'I bled in pg and the baby was/is fine' stories but I have a feeling you need clarification of your own situation and nobody here can give that sadly.

I'll keep checking. Lots of love to you. I have been there.

meinhiding · 07/01/2008 17:33

would a gp see me now do you think or should I wait till tomorrow and see if anything else happens. Am I being over cautious? I've got 3 girls and never had this with any of them so am worried.

Wait till tomorrow sweetie. I dont think there is anything that can be done to prevent anything happening at this stage.

I would imagine the only way to see what was happening would be a scan which couldnt be done until tomorrow at an EPU?

I had some of this with DS (although a bit later on in the pg). Brown blood is usually nothing to worry about.

The chances of bleeding in the first trimester (as quoted to me by the consultant when I bled during my pg) are 40%, so fairly high. There can be many, many reasons and often it is nothing sinister and sometimes they never even know why.

Ring the GP and see if they can see you and then at least you may be able to relax tonight. I was told by the GP that if I experienced bright red bleeding or cramps I could go straight to A&E and they would refer me up the the EPU. As it happened I bled bright red blood and had a lot of cramping later that same day and went straight to the hospital. I was immediately sent for a scan. I repeat, the baby was fine.

Are you in pain at all now?

thanx guys. Just came back from the doc's. basically he said what you lot said that it is common in early pg. That I should come home rest up and wait and see really.

am probably just being parinoid coz it's never happened to me before.

Thanx for your advice

Hi.

Was shattered last night and had a really good sleep. This morning the blood has turned red. I am wearing a pad and there is nothing on it. But everytime I go to the loo it is there.

Other then bad back pain yesterday I am in no pain. Still feel that sicky pg feeling. Ans have a throbbing headache (which I have had for most of this pg so far anyway). I do know that lots of people go through this and come out ok. So am trying to be positive, but cant help being slightly worried.

Doctor said last night to call back this morning if I start bleeding heavily. I have my first midwife appointment on thur but no date booked for a scan yet.

Do I just try and forget about it for now and carry till then?

What I didn't say yesterday was that when I was about 5 weeks pg I had a bleed which I thought was my period (not knowing at his point I was pg). I didn't do a test till last wednesday (5 weeks later) which obviously was positive. So am hoping that perhaps this is just the way this pg is going to be for me.

If you dont want to wait until midwife appt on thurs you could also ask your GP for a scan - so you can clarify what is going on. Most hospitals have early pregnancy units which will arrange a scan for you. Take care

meinhiding · 08/01/2008 09:18

thanx, just had a chat with a mw, who had said that it could be a threatened m/c. But she's wouldn't be concerned unless the bleeding gets heavier, so no scan needed. Just to keep my m/w appointment on thur and try to rest untill then.

Am supposed to be running toddler group tomorrow, first time back after christmas. Do I go and keep my mind off it. Or should I avoid it. It would involve me having to push a pushchair up a steep hill as my l/o is only 17 months and i dont drive.

meinhiding, I had bleeding when pregnant with DS, it started off brown then I had bright red. There wasn't lots of it but it was there when I went to the loo. Phoned the early pregnancy unit and had a scan at 7wks which showed a heartbeat so they said it was a threatened miscarriage. Bleeding stopped after a few days and DS is a healthy 3yr old!

meinhiding · 08/01/2008 10:18

thank you Calebsmum, I am trying to be positive, and trying to rest, but not that easy. Dh is at work and his mobile is off (not entirely happy about that as he knows I was having probs yesterday and I dont have is work number), hopefully he will turn it on again soon.

I have arranged for somebody else to cover for me tommorow so at least dont have to worry myself about that.

I had bleeding at 11 weeks which lasted on and off for a week. I stayed off my feet as much as possible (not sure if it made a difference or not) - it was mainly dark brown blood whilst I was resting but turned to fresh red blood when I was up and about. Mine turned out to be a random bleed behind the placenta and I now have a beautiful dd (4 mths) so hopefully yours is something similar. Not all bleeding is due to a miscarriage so try not to worry (easier said than done) but try and rest as much as poss. Keeping my fingers crossed for you x

meinhiding · 08/01/2008 14:09

thank you PB. Well I managed to get hold of dh, who came straight home. So have been able to rest after all.

Hi, I had bleeding in my second pregnancy a few months ago, but turned out to be a missed miscarriage, , some people say it is just one of those things and it certainly is not, the worry before is terrible, you cannot take your mind off it, i came through it and am now pregnant again, i did have some bleeding this time, but a scan showed everything was fine, you may have a show of blood when your period would normally be, you won't be able to take your mind of it, if it does go wrong, big if, then it is probably because something has gone wrong, and that it is not meant to be, there is nothing you can do to prevent this, but more probably you will be fine. and either way you have a big family to support you x
