I had a 4d scan Friday. Baby measured perfectly for 28 weeks based on measurements they took. Today I had my midwife appointment and she measured me and said I was measuring at 26cm which was small for 28 weeks so now I need a growth scan. I explained that I had a scan 4 days earlier and he was measuring fine.. is this normal or could the measurements from Friday have been wrong ? Confused

Was it a different midwife? I find that they all measure differently.

Bump measurements aren't very accurate at all. The scan measurements will be correct but as it was presumably a private scan the NHS will want to do their own.
The maximum I measured with a nearly 9lb baby was 35 weeks.

@miltonj it was the very first time I’d been measured so had nothing to compare to

I've only known 4d scans to be private. If just having a scan they are simply that not medical advice. They can contact your maternity department if a emergency. Secondly every scanner sees it a bit different and the NHS will have their own measurements to go by. And I wouldn't count baby being a week tiny a 28 weeks a emergency as the NHS have picked it up and are given further scans. I've had this the other way round at about 21 weeks and that scanner is thinking bother the NHS 12 week and the early pregnancy scan have pulled me back a week as baby is to big. I'm waiting on a growth scan at about 28 weeks for it to be clarified.

I had this in my pregnancy and had NHS extra scan to check and all was fine.

They can't just go off what a private 4D scan said, they have to do their own checks. I would enjoy having the extra scan!

Was it the fundal height they measured? With the tape measure across your bump? It's quite inaccurate, it depends on how baby is laid too. With DD, I was measuring 36 weeks at 32 weeks so had to go for a scan and she was measuring fine

Hotfudgebrownie · 29/03/2022 18:10

@CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood yes they measured fundal height 😊

@OtiMama yeah I understand that. I’ll go and enjoy the extra I was just concerned something may be wrong.
