Sweep

Went for a sweep today (I'm 40 + 1) but was told my cervix was closed and too far back so couldn't do the sweep. Has this happened to anyone? If so what happened after this? Thanks

This happened to me and I ended up being induced 2 weeks last due date, fingers crossed your little one makes an appearance sooner than mine did xx

This happened to me. I had another sweep a couple of days later, things had opened up a bit, but no impact. Then another sweep a few days after that, which started my contractions a few hours later. DD arrived a couple of days later at 41+3. She just took her time!

Happened to me in 2 out of 3 pregnancies. I just went back a couple of days later and they were able to do the sweep at that point.

With DC1, if I remember correctly, at 40+0 weeks they couldn’t do the sweep. 40+2 they could just about do the sweep but not very vigorously and nothing happened. At 40+4 they did a sweep again, I went into labour that night, but then labour stalled and had to be augmented with pitocin. Wouldn’t recommend the experience to a friend, but all’s well that ends well.

DC2 came a week early, absolute “dream” birth to the extent that any birth can be.

With DC3, they tried a sweep at 39 weeks because I was so uncomfortable but they couldn’t do it. Tried again at 39+5 or thereabouts, same story. Successful sweep at 40+1. I went into labour on the way home from the midwives and gave birth a few hours later totally drama free. They think they got my dates wrong though (very likely!) and he was probably more like 41+2. Oh the joys.

Yes, had another failed one at 41 weeks and then was induced at 41+3 although by that point I was 3cm
