I am currently 40+2 today with dc no.3.
I was induced with ds and it was an awful experience. I was 9 days overdue!
I had completely natural hospital birth with dd and it was as lovely as it could be. I was 5 days early !
Hence wanting natural home birth this time.
I have my pool all ready but baby not puuting in any show yet. Have had cramps , bh / cx since last week with vomiting and emptying bowels so am sure baby is preparing to make it's entrance on it's own.
However i have my post mature apt on Thurs and know that they will want to make my overdue apt at hospital!
Any advice on what i can say to avoid induction ? TIA

I am planning a homebirth as well - my midwife has told me that at 10 days overdue I go to hospital to be 'assessed', possibly they will do a stretch and sweep, then home again until 14 days overdue, then I would be induced. Why did they induce you at only 9 days overdue? When it comes down to it, you can refuse to be induced - it's not against the law, but I'm not sure that I would want to risk it, personally. I really labour starts for you soon!

HOPE labour starts for you soon..!

Thanks Peg i don't know and i never really questioned it with it being my first. I wan't even 9 days over was only 7 it took that long for the induction to work !
So 14 days is reasonable ?

Sounds like your baby might be comming soon anyway!

lol at it's not against the law not to be induced!

I refused to be induced with DD as I didn't want to go into hostpital. Luckily she popped out at 40+11, but I would have given in at 40+15 anyway (as I had childcare that day )

I think 14 days is recommend by the RC of Midwives. (Is that what it's called?)

lilyloo · 07/01/2008 11:45

LOL at childcare Lynette !
to be fair my midwives are really keen on home births anyway so hoping they will be understanding if i say i really do not want to be induced or at least to wait for the 14 days then ?

I was told I wold have to go to hostpital to be monitored every day at 40+10, and that I should be there at 8am, and wait till they had a slot for me. Obviously not all hostpitals do things the same.

Is now a time to bring up the recent thread on oral prostaglandin?

yes, you say

'thank you very much, but i do not wish to be induced. i will however come and have expectant management.'

you could ask for a sweep at 41 + , that can help get things going

sex does help ! sorrreeeeeeee nipple stim to strengthen contractions, you can use a breast pump for this if you have one

think positive, do strong visualisations of how you want this baby born, make quiet time every day if you can to focus on and connect with your body and the baby.

a normal term pregnancy is anywhere from 37 - 42 weeks, we all tend to focus on 40 weeks as the end date.

good luck!

Well still no sign of this baby yet so am going to take your advice and ask for at least another week tommorrow before i have to give up on idea of hb, just hope it's one of the more pro h/b midwives!
