Has anyone given birth here? I would be very interested to know your experiences. I'm between East Surrey and Pembury Hosp, but have heard some horror stories from friends that recently gave birth at Pembury. East Surrey also has higher ratings.

Thank you!!

Overall positive experience of East Surrey in 2018.

It’s an NHS hospital at the end of the day so staff were very busy, but they didn’t rush me to leave (I stayed 2 nights after a relatively normal delivery) and I returned for some breast feeding help which was invaluable after I had been discharged.

No complaints

@MrsSpooner glad you had a positive experience. I did some research into private but it's just too much of a stretch financially. I'm probably overreacting, but the birth stories I've heard from Pembury have scared me... Great to hear that East Surrey worked well for you!

I had both mine here, including one on Christmas. Terrible food, but great midwives. Shout out to Hazel in the day unit. Though it was 12 years ago now.

Choose pembury if you can

WorryMcGee · 28/03/2022 17:26

I’ve not given birth yet (I have a c section in 3 weeks) but the care I’ve had from everyone at East Surrey has been nothing short of brilliant. Every time we walk out my husband and I are like “they’re just so NICE in there aren’t they?!”

Springandsummerarecoming · 28/03/2022 17:39

Where do you live? I’ve also heard good things about crow borough birthing unit?

stiltonchese · 28/03/2022 20:20

@Springandsummerarecoming I live near Sevenoaks. I was under the impression that Crowborough was a midwife only birthing unit that has to blue light to Pembury if anything goes wrong, as there are no doctors there!

@TakeMeToYourLiar did you have a good experience at pembury?

@WorryMcGee that's so lovely! Good luck with the birth :)

My experience at Penbury was awful. I suffered a 4th degree tear because they allowed me to deliver my boy in a position I should never have (arm above his head and elbow angled out). It was chaotic and dangerous with massive blood loss. I’m pregnant now and won’t be going back there x

stiltonchese · 28/03/2022 20:45

@HopingForRainbow2021 I'm so sorry - that sounds awful and traumatic. Thanks for sharing & I hope this next birth is empowering and positive for you.

Thank you, I hope for the same for you :) on a more positive note, I birth partnered for a friend who gave birth at crowborough birthing centre. She had a water birth, and the whole experience seemed wonderful x

They were Brilliant with my 1st a couple of years ago .. had an emergency c section. Couldn't fault them! 10/10

With my second. They were understaffed ... lots of bits were missed. I was taken off the monitor whilst baby's heart was playing up. Thankfully one doctor noticed and had my baby the day after. However after having the baby .. lots of things that could've been prevented were missed and I'm very disappointed.

I definitely got the feeling they were understaffed & rushed and overworked which is not their fault but be prepared to wait a long time even if an emergency

I had my daughter at East Surrey and am planning on having my second there, I'm currently 35 weeks. I had a really good experience and feel confident going there again. Even though I live nearer another hospital I wouldn't feel comfortable delivering there at all.
