Please help, inconclusive scan

Hi all. I got my BFP on the 7th. I’ve never had a positive before 12dpo before so I’m just going to assume I was 12dpo then so 3w5d pregnant. Going by that today I would be 6w4 (by my dates I’m 7w4 but irregular cycles). I had an early scan today which only showed a yolk sac measuring 5w5 and they’ve said it’s an inconclusive scan. Has anyone had a similar situation and can share the outcome?

Hi greenrj,

Please take another look at your photo and let us know if you'd like us to remove it.

What did they suggest going forward?
It may be that the pregnancy has stopped growing or it could be that you’re measuring behind or it could be that next time you go everything will look normal. Sorry no personal experience but hope you get the best outcome. X

They’ve said rescan in two weeks but we can’t afford it so going to beg for an EPU referral

With my daughter (I just went digging through emails and all sorts for the dates) I had a scan 2 weeks and 6 days after my positive pregnancy test and she measured exactly 6 weeks so by that this baby is only 2 days behind what she was doing. Do some people just grow them slowly?

No people don’t grow babies slowly all babies grow at the same rate. It’s possible you got your dates mixed up. It’s possible baby stopped growing at 5w5d. Those are basically the explanations unfortunately. I had a scan at 6 weeks and that’s all that could be seen too. I was told to return 2 weeks later free of charge and all was well. They did measure me at 6 weeks but said they just couldn’t see baby yet. So my dates matched. If your dates are way off then I’m not sure but they should be rescanning your free. Did they not say for free?

greenrj · 27/03/2022 21:35

@Nikki037297 no they didn’t, it was Window To The Womb I’m not sure if they offer free rescans?

Just to make you aware you details are visible on your scan you posted Smile
WineIsAFruitRight · 27/03/2022 21:38

OP, just so you know you can see all your details on your photo. That's why Mumsnet was asking if you want them to remove it.

X

Yes they offer a free rescan
I'm going back later this week for mine as either my dates or wrong or baby stopped growing at 5w6d

SunnySideUp2020 · 28/03/2022 08:19

So you went for your scan 3 weeks after your first positive is that correct?
Was it a faint positive then?

It could just be that you were earlier/had an early bfp and so this pregnancy is just 6 weeks. I also thought i dnt get positive before 11dpo but each pregnancy is diff and this time i had one at 8dpo.

greenrj · 28/03/2022 10:42

@SunnySideUp2020 yeah that's right. It was obvious but not super bold as a BFP... it could have just been earlier than expected I guess I just feel on edge not knowing

Hey how did your rescan go?

Ifonlyiknewwhat · 10/07/2023 10:50

I had the same thing at 5w5d. I got rescanned 2 weeks later and baby was there. Was just too soon to see anything in my case. Hope your rescan goes well x

moosey89 · 10/07/2023 11:39

@greenrj I'm in a similar situation - should have been 8+5 at a scan last week but baby measured 6+6 (but with a strong heartbeat!). I'm expecting to have a miscarriage or missed miscarriage, but wanted to let you know just because it's behind right now, it doesn't mean it won't carry on growing.

It's just not that good news as if they are growing slowly there's a high risk of miscarriage (saying that, it might all be ok, hence why they said it's inconclusive). Sorry to be negative, but wanted to give you a realistic view.

moosey89 · 10/07/2023 11:40

I should add - I am certain of my dates, regular cycles and I can legitimately only be 2 days out max (so smallest I expected was 8 weeks, allowing for a bit of human error/the margin they allow of 4-5 days).

greenrj · 10/07/2023 19:03

Thanks all who replied. This is an old thread sadly we lost the baby; however my rainbow girl was born exactly a year after the inconclusive scan on 27/03/2023!
