What are the covid rules like now for birthing partners. My bils friend had to stay outside the Labour room for much of the Labour and this was only a few days ago. I’m surprised this is still going on in maternity units? Anyone else have any recent experience?

It depends on the hospital - each Trust will have its own rules!

It seems to vary from trust to trust. Ours allows partners providing they have a negative lateral flow test.

I had to go to maternity triage a couple of weeks ago as an emergency and it was only luck that DH had taken one the day before in order to visit his dad in hospital.

Ours also says partners are allowed to all maternity scans, but this doesn't actually cover the EPAU unfortunately (we delayed TTC until they said this on their website, then found out I still had to be alone during my third miscarriage, which was pretty shit).
They still aren't running any antenatal classes.

My partner was allowed to attend all appointments and be with me the whole time I was in labour. Only restriction was on the post natal ward where visiting was 9am to 8pm (but I’m pretty sure the make an exception if you’ve just had your baby “out of hours”

Thanks, it sounds like it varies a lot, I’ll be giving birth either at a midwife unit or hospital so will find out from both what the rules are. Third time for me but I’m still worried about labouring alone Confused

This was my experience when I gave birth in January too

In my trust partners are allowed to the 12 week scan, anomaly scan and fetal medicine scans but not allowed at any other appointments.

They can be present the whole time during labour and for 3 hours after birth. Really hope that changes in the next 4 months when I'm due!
