Polyhydramnios & baby measuring large at 32 weeks

Hi all,

First time positing here just wanted to hear if anyone has been through similar and what were your experiences/outcomes.

For some context, this is my third pregnancy however I have no living children. I had a termination for medical reasons at 22 weeks with my daughter in September 2020 and then a missed miscarriage in march 2021. I am now 32 weeks with a little boy and who I sincerely hope will be my rainbow baby. My anxiety with being pregnant after loss is through the roof and still we will not bring home a healthy baby and I'm hoping hearing from some of you might be able to put my mind at rest a little.

Today I went for a growth scan at 31+6 weeks after my fundal height measurements have been high at my last 2 midwife appointments. The scan showed that baby is measuring large, about 3 weeks ahead (he's way off the charts for his gestational age) but also showed excess amniotic fluid, I think the measurement was 12 when it's supposed to be around 8. I've been booked in for a gestational diabetes test & blood tests for any infections, but I just can't help but think the worst and that maybe something's wrong with the baby genetically, or some kind of congenital abnormality or maybe an infection has caused damage.

So I just wondered if anyone has experienced the same thing, large baby & excess amniotic fluid, and what the outcome was. Any replies would be appreciated.
Thanks

Me!

He popped out by c-section at 39 weeks at a very healthy 11lbs 6oz. Couldn’t have been healthier. They never bother testing me for GD but think that’s probably what it was!

I did with my last. Begged to be induced on my due date. He was physically healthy, under 8lbs.

gamerchick · 24/03/2022 20:47

No GD either.

Thanks for your reply, wow that's a pretty big baby Shock glad he was perfectly healthy though.

Were you also diagnosed with excess amniotic fluid during your pregnancy?

Yep, had gd but managed to control it through my diet. Baby was born healthy 8lb4 via emcs at nearly 39 weeks after being induced. The induction went well but he was back to back and getting stressed, C-section was the right choice xx

I had polyhydramnios & a CS as baby was spinning around. 9lbs

freedaym · 24/03/2022 21:20

yes no GD

Szboox · 24/03/2022 21:33

Yes I had this I had lots of tests etc to see if I had any infections. But the next time I went for a scan, the fluid was normal! Had a dinky baby 4lb 12!

Mycatsgoldtooth · 24/03/2022 21:43

Yes me - had GD which was picked up at 32 weeks. Healthy boy, C section at 37 weeks as he was measuring so big. His head is still absolutely massive at 11 months and he’s a big lad.
So sorry to hear about your losses and completely understand you feeling so anxious. Flowers

I don’t think I had excess fluid, but my baby was 11lb 7 and absolutely nothing wrong with her. Most chilled out baby you’ve ever met!
