Going abroad Pregnant

I'm travelling to Kos on the 1st June for a week all inclusive (counting down the days!) and will be 23 1/2 weeks pregnant at that point.

I have done my research into how to keep myself/baby safe so will be ensuring;

  • Bump is covered
  • I am covered as and when needed to protect from sun
  • Factor 50 is used as skin will be more sensitive
  • Travel socks for the flight with a little wonder up and down the isle every half hour or so.

But is there any words of wisedom or things that have been a god send whilst you have been on holiday that i may not think about?!
This is my first pregnancy so not sure what to expect, and want to try and make this baby moon as relaxing and lovely as possible!

Thanks everyone x

I went away in my last pregnancy at 26 weeks. I didn’t take cream as it was not expected to be too hot the hottest was 20 degrees so we spent that day on the beach. I kept well hydrated and I enjoyed the food, I ate quite a lot being that far pregnant I was quite hungry but I’m a picky eater so I was mostly hanging out in the kids section, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, sausage, chips, beans, jelly and ice cream and I was in my element.
We are going away this year I’ll be 30 weeks and I’m really looking forward to it

Thank you @Nikki037297 - I am so looking forward to it aswell, specially after not being able to get away for 2 years!

I think its going to be fairly warm - average between 25 - 30 degrees but plan to always be by shade and cover up if need be. I'm usually pretty good in the heat so hoping i will be this time!

That sounds perfect I’m usually quite good with the heat too but where I’m going we are looking at 35 but All the rooms are air con so I’m just really looking forward to it as like you I haven’t been away for 2 years also and I’m utterly desperate lol

You'll be fine sunbathing and getting a tan, just make sure you stay hydrated and keep applying cream and taking breaks in the shade. I'm going away soon and I'll certainly be making the most of the sun ☀️🕶 unless you want to stay in the shade that is !

Get good travel insurance to cover you and your pregnancy. To be fair I always advise travel insurance pregnant or not having assisted with some quite difficult cases of people who travelled without it and had difficulties. It may be extreme but a hospital stay or air ambulance can cost thousands of pounds.

If you're on medication make sure you bring extra in case your return to the UK is delayed.

Oh i do intend to sunbathe as long as i can stand it! I am a proper sun worshipper normally but will be careful to keep as cool as possible!

Did you guys go bikinis or full swimsuit? I'mnot sure which to for!

Hi! I went to Tenerife when I was about 17 weeks.
As others have said - stay hydrated etc.. i had to do blood thinning injections for the flights there and back.
Also, probably because of the heat (and relaxation!) I felt much more lethargic than in my normal day to day at home. I ate at more regular intervals or I felt a bit nauseous (which I was lucky enough not to experience much before then).
Have fun!!

Hi @wonderwoman26 lol I'll be leaving Kos as you arrive! But I will be 30 weeks while I'm there! I'm anticipating a very lazy relaxing week with the odd (flat) bike ride and drive to see other parts of the island. No all inclusive for us but believe me, that's for the best knowing what we can eat GrinWink

How strange! 😂

Yeah we are planning to hire a car and do some gentle sight seeing. We are in the mountains somewhere about 15 mins away from Kos town (spotted the local hospital just incase haha!)

Bikini every time! I went to Grand Cayman at about 25 weeks pregnant and had a fab time. Lots of tanning on the beach and snorkeling. I remember being properly annoyed I couldn't drink cocktails in the beach bar though...

RealRaymondReddington · 24/03/2022 19:14

I'm sure you will be fine but be prepared to stick to the shade if you need to. I used to be fine with sun and was brought up in a hot country but when pregnant my skin burnt really easily and I had to keep under the sun brolly!
Also, take some rennies as I found that different food on holiday made my pregnancy indigestion even worse. Oh and you used to have to be careful with ice in drinks and ice creams from squirty machines (Mr Whippy type), but that is 4 years ago for me so may have changed.
