Private scan- were your dates wrong

Hi ladies

Absolute pregnancy newbie, I posted a week or so ago because I felt strange to not have sickness. So yes this is another one of those questions where I need to understand a bit more from more knowledgeable mums out there!

So I was so sure on my dates, but they could be wrong. I do know I had implantation on 11/2

Went for a private scan on 22nd march to be told baby measured 5w6d

I have numerous sets of twins in my family so wanted to be sure there wasn't two in there, as we would have to change a few things round in the house if we were having 2.

It was not an internal (didn't really want an internal either)
They've re booked for another, but can I have some experiences on this kinda thing happening.

If the pregnancy goes from implantation, it's absolutely bang on, but if it's from conception it's nearly two weeks behind.

The note does say about a pole and a yolk being present, but I have just read these references in other posts on here.

Let me know what your experiences were? I am chilled about it and not stressing out, I'm just one of those people who would like to get a feel to whether this happens "a lot" or if I need to prepare myself.

Measuring two weeks behind could go either way really. I've seen it work out and also not. I'm currently waiting for my second scan to be told that it hasn't worked out for me :(

An internal is better at such an early stage as its really hard to get accurate measurements of something so tiny.

Sadwhy do you know it hasn't worked out for you. Stay positive!

@VictoriaBlossom Because there's no way I could be measuring what they said I was. The dates would not correspond with the last time we had sex. Plus I started red spotting this morning so it's looking like it's definitely all over for me.

I hope it works out better for you :)

User65412 · 24/03/2022 09:47

How many weeks should you be according to lmp?

Gigi30 · 24/03/2022 09:53

When i went for my early scan I was told I was 5 weeks 1 day. I thought I was a little bit further than this. Then at my 12 weeks scan I was put forward a week to 13 weeks and 1 day. So it might change slightly when you get to your 12 weeks scan.

wonderwoman26 · 24/03/2022 09:54

Sorry OP - How can you be 100% certain on the day you implanted?

I was 2 weeks out with mine, late ovulation due to being ill and then what i can only assume is late implantation.

When i went for my scan they measured me at 5w6days also and only saw a gas sac and yolk sac like you - which panicked me as i was convinced of my dates.

I am not 13 1/2 weeks so baby has almost caught up (minus a week) to whether i thought i should be!

Yeah, forgive my newbie-ness!

I had the implantation bleed and cramps on 11/2

But based on implantation I would be bang on.

Part of my issue is, im keeping this pretty secret for the first trimester. So I have no one to ask.
Hence reaching out on here

I could be out, it's just weird that I got a 1-2 week positive test, before my actual missed period

If your a million percent certain of your dates but implantation is honestly barely noticeable as the baby implanting is the size of a pin prick so it’s just like having a needle let’s say at the dentist in your mouth. The bleeding is minor if any at all. I had implantation bleeding with my daughter it was minor cramping all day then one spot of pink blood when I wiped. This was 6dpo. I tested positive the day my period was due as I didn’t test any earlier.
So if your certain of your dates going by your last period, ovulation tests or pains, implantation. Then 2 weeks behind is a bit much. I had a scan at 6 weeks exactly in this pregnancy and they couldn’t see a baby just the sac and yolk sac. She offered me an internal scan as this was the tummy scan I said yes because I wanted to see my baby if there was a chance but the internal scan was exactly the same as the tummy scan we still couldn’t see the baby. I had to go back in 2 weeks. My symptoms really ramped up bad in these two weeks the vomiting was dreadful my boobs were agony so I had no worry anything was wrong and I knew the scan matched my dates it’s just sometimes you can’t see a baby at 6 weeks she said. But scans are dated 2 weeks ahead so they go from your last period so although I’m now 12 weeks my baby only began growing in there 10 weeks ago. But my scan measured my baby this week at 12 weeks. But I don’t want to confuse you but if the scan said your 5/6 weeks and you believe your 7/8 weeks that’s a big gap. Do you feel pregnant? Are you being sick?

User65412 · 24/03/2022 10:15

A small bleed could be anything - not always implantation. Even if it was, it doesn't mean you implanted that day.
1-2 weeks on a clear blue digi before your missed period is correct as that date is from conception. This all depends on your cycle length and when you ovulated (which isn't an exact science!)
How many weeks and days should you be according to lmp?

I don't know what feeling pregnant is like as this is the first for me. I have really bad headaches all day every day, and I'm absolutely shattered, had a couple of days of sickness but nothing massive with sickness Boobs are sore and have blue veins on. I am generally just a more tired version of me right now.

@VictoriaBlossom some people don't get any symptoms, I'm quite shocked they didn't do an internal scan, they aren't accurate at all at this stage unless they are internal, dates can be out until 12 weeks its hard to measure a tiny blob.

@Hmum0fthree this strangely gives me a small amount of hope. 9th April is my rescan. Anything bigger will be good news. I wanted to know if someone does have a miscarriage does it make your hormones go back to normal

@User65412 I should be 8 weeks according to lmp

Hi @VictoriaBlossom, so sorry you're going through this limbo. Have they booked a rescan for 10-14 days time? Unfortunately it wasn't good news for me and I had a missed miscarriage in November last year. I should've been measuring 7 weeks but was only around 5+4 and I just knew what that meant. I also still very much felt pregnant which I found was the cruellest part of it all. The only thing I will say is that you had an abdominal which means it would be a lot harder to accurately measure and that's why they say internal is better in the earlier stages. Good luck, I hope you have some good news when you go back xx

@Cruz86 Yeah I am anticipating the worst. I have an underactive thyroid so have expected issues as I'd seen lots of ladies struggling with getting to full term with UAT. I guess the positive is that we can conceive as we hadn't even planned a baby just yet. It was on the horizon but that was it. Re scan 9th April, feels like an age away
OP posts:
TheDaydreamBelievers · 25/03/2022 10:31

Absolutely ludicrous of them not to do an internal. Baby is teeeeeeny at this stage. Hopefully the rescan helps clarify. At 7 weeks, I would have hoped to see a heartbeat. Hope it works out for you x

VictoriaBlossom · 31/03/2022 05:58

Just to add on to this. My dates were correct and baby had died at 5w6.
Never been pregnant before so didn't really know what the whole process was. I knew something was wrong, my symptoms were depleting daily.
Confirmed two sacs and embryo's yesterday and I'm having a MMC. Of twins Sad
Had no idea what any of it all meant really, but just want it all over with.

I was 2 weeks out with DD. Went for a scan and according to LMP I should of been 7 weeks. When they scanned me I was only 5 weeks.

I was so confused and asked if they were sure as my last period was 7 weeks ago and they said i must of just ovulated later in my cycle. DD is 7 now

Dumdeedahdumdeedo · 31/03/2022 06:10

Oh OP just seen your last message. I'm so sorry for your loss x
