First time Mumsnet user here!

We’re on holiday in Sri Lanka. After 2 years we’ve just found out we’re pregnant! 5 weeks and we’re booked to go whale watching tomorrow on a speed boat? Any advice on whether we should go or cancel?

Can’t think of why you should not go. Congratulations and enjoy the holiday!

I’d go. Cannot think why this would even be an issue.

RedRobin100 · 23/03/2022 05:35

Don’t think it’s an issue at any stage of pregnancy? Unless you get sea sick and are already nauseous?
Enjoy it

Thank you. I wasn't sure about all the bumping up and down.

I can see you concern OP, you do get thrown about a bit on a speedboat, very bumpy too. Entirely depends on how you feel about it, Google some advice online, I had a quick look, first trimester can cause dizziness and nausea. Second trimester is safer. Obviously not recommended at all in 3rd trimester. Good luck.

Thanks. Tried googling too but usually leads to worse case scenarios.
Don't get seasick and haven't had any morning sickness yet (too early).
Just worried about the egg.

Considering the fact that professional advice still tells you it’s okay to have sex, I would imagine that little egg is pretty hardy. And it sounds like an amazing opportunity. Congratulations!

The egg will be fine. Congratulations x

If it’s the bumping up and down you are worried about, I went skiing at 7 weeks, rode snowmobiles in the Arctic at 22 weeks, rode my horse (including in competitions) until 32 weeks, rode my mountain bike through the woods till 36 weeks, and worked as an aircraft simulator panel operator for pilots to practice emergency drills (with all the throwing around that entails) until my due date. Both babies were fine.

Honestly, just go on the boat and enjoy it.

Went whale watching at 7 weeks.
No issues at all apart from vomiting everywhere! (Morning sickness coupled with sea sickness)... whales and dolphins were amazing though.

You are pregnant but that doesn't mean you stop living! Enjoy as much as you can!

Thank you everyone
