15 weeks brown discharge

I'm 15 weeks today and when I went to the toilet first thing this morning I had some brown discharge when I wiped (the same as I used to get at the end of my period). I called the maternity unit who advised me to go straight to a&e so that's what I did. They got me to do a urine sample which the nurse said showed that I could be starting to get a water infection, but I don't think is related to the bleeding I've had. Then I saw a doctor who felt my stomach and asked a few questions about pain. He said that he isn't concerned because I seem well and aren't in too much pain but he has booked me a scan at EPU for tomorrow morning just to be sure.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of bleeding around the 15 week mark? I haven't had any bleeding the whole pregnancy until now so it's so unnervingConfused it seems to have stopped now but I'm just hoping it doesn't start back up again!

Sorry no advice just didn’t want to read and run.
I’m glad the hospital are taking it seriously! I’m glad you’ve got a scan booked in for tomorrow. Have they said anything about what to do if the discharge starts again?

Hi OP, how are you getting on? Were they able to find the source of it at the scan? xx

Jupiter92 · 22/03/2022 14:25

Sorry I have totally read it wrong, I hope it all goes well for you! Brown discharge usually isn't anything to worry about. Keep an eye on it and let your midwife know if it becomes more. xx

@Hiddenvoice @Jupiter92 thanks both for your replies! I went for my scan this morning and thankfully the baby was absolutely fine... I couldn't have been anymore relieved, I honestly convinced myself it was over!

They said that they could see a small patch of fluid that they think is a hematoma so they think that's where the bleeding was coming from. The midwives didn't really say much about it other than not to worry and they will recheck it at my 20 week scan. I googled it when I got home (I know I shouldn't but how can you not lol?!) and it said in some cases it can cause problems with the baby whereas in others you may not even notice that you have it and all will be okay with the baby. Not sure how to feel about that but I have my 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow so hopefully she will be able to tell me a bit more about it🤞🏼

Great news about your baby! So happy for you!

Only natural to google, I do it too when they tell me not to. It’s the first thing you want to do!
Great you’ve got your midwife appointment to talk it all over with her and put your mind at rest.
Tonight make sure you rest up feeling happy about your little growing baby!

I had brown and pink discharge on and off throughout my third pregnancy. At one point it was even red ( but a tiny amount). I got tested for all infections but never got to the bottom of what was causing it. In my fourth pregnancy I had it again when I first found out I was pregnant and again at 28 weeks. Again I never found out the cause but everything was OK.

That’s great news! I’m so happy everything is fine with your little one.

I’ve heard hematomas are quite common and don’t usually cause any problems so that’s a relief. Google always tells us the worst! Xxx

I'm so glad your scan went well! I had pink spotting for the first 12 weeks or so. I then had quite a bit of red blood at around the 24 week mark and was told I had a hematoma. Ended up going nearly 2 weeks overdue and DS was absolutely fine.
