Irregular cycle and getting pregnant?

Hi,
I have an irregular cycle, my period comes every month but varies between 31-45 days so I can't work out when I ovulate. I don't really want to spend money on ovulation strips so how often should I be having sex with my partner to try and get pregnant?

Every other day.

Have you ever got to the bottom of why you have irregular cycles? In my case I have thyroid issues and once I was started on levothyroxine my cycles moved from between 35 and 146(!) days to 31 days. But, sorry to say this, but ovulation sticks are the best way of checking whether/when you’re ovulating (along with temping and/or monitoring cervical mucus). I hugely envy those with proper regular cycles! When TTC my second, on the cycle I conceived her I actually ovulated a week after I expected to, despite the thyroid meds.

You can get a ton of ovulation strips from Amazon for not very much.

You can also buy a basal body thermometer and use that to track your cycle.

After a few months you'll either be pregnant or know the other signs your body gives you that your ovulating.

Common ones are:

Feeling ducking awesome and gorgeous
Being more horny
Tingling breasts (mine even tell me which side I ovulate)
Increase in cervical mucus
Change in cervical position

Yep, you're going to have to track your ovulation using either (cheap) ovu strips or a bbt thermometer to have any idea of when you ovulate.

Or like a pp said, sex every other day (I couldn't do that, too much pressure if you've no idea when ovulation happens!!!)

I have watery cm on the six fertile days. If you have any indicators that you are in the fertile window you could use that and dtd a few times in the window. Otherwise dtd every other day or ovulation kits.

Buy 100 one step ovulation tests on Amazon for pittance, it doesn't need to cost a fortune. Your cycle isn't that irregular really...mine was anywhere from 29- 88 days for no reason anyone could discover.

If you don't want to have sex every other day, I'd start about 10-14 days after your period starts and do it as much as possible for a couple of weeks. That should cover your bases.

I have PCOS and had success tracking temperature with a BBT thermometer. You do have to do it by the book though!
