Hi, there's a great Facebook group called Parents of preemies support UK. This question comes up a lot so there's lots of good advice there. I had a cybex Aton Q from my previous baby which has been good. It's one of the few approved down to 4lb.

Thanks @proflnkly. I'll have a wee look at the cybex

We had to buy an insert from mother care (you can get them from Amazon or Boots too) when we brought our premie home. He struggled with poor muscle control and was dinky. Just google car seat insert for premie seemed to bring some up.

Hope this helps.

Thanks @RatherbeinCanada 👍

Those inserts aren't really recommended if you can avoid them, they were necessary in older style car seats that didn't have much support even for full term newborns but these days most car seats have good newborn support and those extra pillows get in the way and aren't compatible with them.

I'd look at maxi Cosi pebble pro, and avionaut pixel.

Thanks @BertieBotts. These are all good places to start. It really is difficult as there are so many to choose from but none that seem to be specifically aimed at smaller babies

There are certainly none that are marketed for that purpose, except perhaps the lay-flat ones. It must not be a very lucrative market! But these two have very good inserts and tend to fit teeny tiny babies very well.

Look at the Maxi cosi ones. Can't remember the name, but they have inserts that make them almost flat.

Think I'm sold on these lie flat maxi cosi ones that double up as pram and carrycot!!! Thank you so much everyone

I had a maxi cosi for my dc, who was 4lb 11 when he left nicu.

We just used the cybex that we got when we got our travel set and pram. She was only 3lb 8oz so looked tiny but the hospital didn't say anything and don't think there really is a specific premie one xx
