Pregnant 3 months after giving birth!

Hi, I had my first born in December 21 and have just found out I am pregnant 3 months later. Has anyone been in this situation before? I’m very anxious and worried as the midwife said not to return within a year! It would mean both children would have their birthdays in December. I’m more concerned about the health risks associated with pregnancies so close. Thanks guys

It's not super common but certainly not rare! I haven't experienced this myself but have heard of others. Loads of people I know get pregnant in the first year after baby is born, mines due in June and I'll start trying again in Feb. Hope someone who has will post. With the right care and support you and baby should be just fine, it happens. Congratulations! xxx

I haven't been in it myself but my brother and I are 10.5 months apart and it didn't cause my mother any issues.

Yikes congratulations!! I gave birth on Dec 22nd and we haven't even gotten back in the saddle yet!!! Yes it will be difficult but other people fo it and get by and a small age gap means your babies can play really nicely growing up! Best of luck!

I think the health risks are relative, not absolute. I seem to remember reading that as much of the concern is about nutrition and fatigue as it is about physical strain, and you can mitigate those things.

If you’re otherwise well, want and can cope with two, I wouldn’t worry too much. It used to be very common.

Meant to say I had my first two 15 months apart and was absolutely fine. It’s not that much different really. Eat well, take supplements, and, if possible, get as much help with the baby as is available.

My two brother are just a year apart one born 6th May the other 11th May. I do not think my mum had any problems with the second pregnancy

I got pregnant when my eldest was 5 month. My body struggled a lot more the second time round although that was possibly related to a lot less resting and a lot more soft play/running around after a toddler. My body went back to normal immediately after birth though.

My babies are 12 months apart. The hardest yet best decision ever x

My sister and I are less than a year apart in age, always had a pal and still very close. Did feel sad that they each had to share Mum’s attention, but we don’t feel sorry for twins do we?

Nat6999 · 17/03/2022 02:16

My friend & her brother are 10 months apart, she was born September 3, he was born prem on 17 July 8 weeks early, they were in the same year at school.

Having two babies in 12 months was called "Irish Twins" when I was growing up, I guess because Irish Catholic families used to have lots of children (i.e. 6 was considered "small" according to my friend who is 1 of 6 and is about 55). I actually have two Irish fiends who were both born very close to a sister in age and they are both very close to their sibs.

Same thing happened to my Mum - my brother and I are 11.5 months apart. She found it quite hard going when we were both babies but physically everything was fine.
