Rest vs staying active at 38 weeks

I've been super exhausted lately which is causing me to feel so much guilt as I feel I should be doing much more (decluttering, getting final things organised for baby etc) and I've heard staying active and walking at this stage helps with labour.

Same time my body is telling me to slow down, nap, rest. Having period like cramps and lower back pain.

Baby's head is engaged and literally feel it when I exert myself too long. Everything just seems an effort tbh.

Anyone else feel the same?

Yep! I am 37+4 going swimming most days which is honestly the best exercise to do right now, so nice feeling weightless. And after I’ve been for a swim I don’t feel so guilty if the rest of the day is spent mostly resting. Getting some movement in definitely makes me feel better but you also need to listen to your body and not do too much if that’s what it needs.

If your body is asking for rest then do rest. It may feel like there's a lot to be done, but don't tire yourself out. You'll need every ounce of energy when you're in labour!

I was 37+5 and felt super exhausted. Waters broke the next day and DD born the day after that. I would take all the rest you can!!

I definitely second resting!!
I didn't with my first and really regretted it after she was born, wished I'd rested more when I had the chance!
Although a gentle swim would help with aches etc.

Different with each pregnancy so listen to your body and nobody else.

  1. I was walking 5k/day right up to the day.
  2. essentially became one with the sofa from about 26 weeks.
