Hello, I'm 6w4d pregnant now, the first midwife appointment is at around 8w2 days. As I'm not feeling many symptoms yet (morning sickness), Ive booked for a scan with ultrasound direct for a piece of mind. Is there anything else I can do in the meantime to make sure? Is it normal to not have morning sickness? I do fell heartburn and bloated, maybe more sometimes quite sensitive to smell but that's about it. Sorry, nervous due to the age (nearly 43). Thank you xx

Hello. To be honest there is very little you can do for the next 6 weeks and having a scan booked for too early can also be more stressful.

I have two healthy children from 4 pregnancies. 2 pregnancies failed at the 8 week mark. My losses came about age 40 so I understand the age related concern.

With my last pregnancy - I tried to work with 2 week milestones. So had scan at 8 weeks when a heartbeat should be present.

Arranged to have harmony test at 10 1/2 weeks so again could see heartbeat and have the testing done ahead of the nhs 12 week scan

Had 12 week scan

After 12 week scan - I relaxed a bit but then worked on 4 week chunks instead until you get to 20 weeks.

Also - ask your midwife about age related care. Being over 40 I was referred to consultant led care which meant from week 28 I was having scans every 3-4 weeks to monitor growth and placenta and I chose to be induced just before 40 weeks to manage the risks. I didn't like the high risk title of being over 40 but was more than happy to get extra care

I think if you're anxious the early scan will help, I know it helped me. I've had previous losses and so had scans at 6w and 10w in EPU. I also paid for one with ultrasound direct at 9w as I had a bleed and it was a Saturday so couldn't be seen on nhs. My experience with them was really positive, and they were able to give me photos and videos sent to my phone which are really nice to look back on. Wishing you all the best for a healthy pregnancy, it sounds like you have more symptoms than some people get, most of my friends didn't get sick. xx
